Surviving in a typical middle-class Indian household is very hard for every girl. Indian culture has always been in favor of men. We say that India has developed, and yes, it has but do you ever have a look at the rural side of India. Yes, women are respected even there but have you seen the ratio of physical abuse, emotional disrespect?
Now talking about the middle-class family girls. For example, the family girl is supposed to do all the household work even if her brother is older than her. Even the mothers teach all the household work only to the daughters because even their mothers did that. All girls are raised this way, and hence they raise the next generation that way.
Yes, we are provided with education facilities, but is that the only thing that we call 'developing.' What about the emotional trauma every girl gets through?. Every Indian family keeps that restriction on girls. Dont go out, you should be at home before 8 and what about the son?. No restrictions, nothing, and then people complain about rapes happening every day. Start giving the same restrictions as the girls to the boys and then see how the rape ratio declines.
The differentiating statics of every girl and boy in an Indian household is why the girl has mental health issues. You want your daughter to feel safe, but that does not mean restricting her from everything. To be honest, I go through all this every day, and the only thing I can do is cry alone and say yes to whatever my family says.
Girls are the strongest living creatures on this earth. How can someone get so discriminated and differentiated but still love her family the same way, stand for her family? See how strong girls are but then we are called weak. Years pass, and millions of girls face this trauma in their own house, and someday, she starts criticizing women because she is taught to do so.
We say India is a land of values. Yes, we do have values, but they are only limited to women in society. If you see a girl with 2 guys, she has no values, and when you see a guy with 2 girls, it's wonderful. Girls cannot wear what they want to because then they will get judged by society. If the girl gets raped, it's said she was asking for it just because she was wearing short clothes.
Sometimes I laugh at these people and yet cry for what women feel. I imagine only that one day when we girls will be treated as free as boys. Yes, these families do give us the same career opportunities, but it's just for the sake because we should get married in a good family and should be able to teach our children.
Parents never think bad for their kids. Yes, it's true, but tell us how to survive with this discrimination every day. Some girls like me cannot survive this. We want to live life on our own terms, but then we can because we love our family, which would not be accepted. Everyone talks about the differences in opportunities, rights but what about peace? What about freedom.
Shoutout to every parent and every family which treats their daughter as their sons. I know I can't do anything, but girls like me will go through all this but raise our girls to live their lives and do anything without thinking of society.
