Skin
The surface of the skin is covered with small sebaceous glands just below the surface. These glands produce an oily substance called sebum that keeps the skin smooth and soft.
Small pores (holes in the skin) allow sebum to reach the skin area. Hair also grows through these holes.

What causes acne?
Acne is caused by overuse of sebaceous glands that produce fatty substances on the skin.
The sebaceous glands of people with acne are very sensitive to normal blood levels of a hormone called testosterone, which is found naturally in both men and women.
Testosterone in people with acne prone causes sebaceous glands to produce excess sebum. At the same time, dead skin cells covering the hair follicles (hair follicles) do not break down properly and close the strands.
These two effects combine to cause the accumulation of oil in the hair follicles. This causes blackheads and white heads to form.
For some people their managers do not exceed this category.
For some people, however, the accumulation of oil in the hair follicles creates an ideal environment for the virus called Propionibacterium acnes to grow.
These germs usually live harmlessly on your skin but once this healthy environment is created, they grow. They consume sebum and produce substances that trigger your immune system. This burns the skin and creates redness and spots.
In very ‘swollen’ bumps, a lump grows under the skin. These acne cysts can develop, spreading the infection to nearby skin tissues. This can cause scars.
What makes an acne so bad?
There are many things that can make your acne worse. These include the following:
* picking and squeezing spots can cause swelling and scars1
* Depression can make acne worse for some people, although it is not clear why1,
* in women, the rash may be affected by hormonal changes that occur during the menstrual cycle1,
* overproduction of male hormones such as testosterone in conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome may be another reason.5 For more information, please refer to the fact sheet BUPA polycystic ovary syndrome.
* Some birth control pills may make acne worse. This is due to the type of progestogen hormone in some pills while other types of birth control pills can improve acne - see treatment section below. Your doctor will let you know which contraceptive pill you should take
* Some medicines can make acne worse. For example, some medications used for epilepsy, as well as steroid creams and ointments used for eczema. Do not stop the prescribed medication if you suspect that you are making acne worse, but tell your doctor. If not it would be an option
* steroids can cause acne as a side effect
Treatment
Acne can have serious psychological consequences, but there are a number of treatments that can help you to cope. No treatment will completely cure your acne. The goals of treatment are to prevent the formation of new spots, to improve existing ones, and to prevent scars.3
Home treatment
It is important to keep the dirty areas clean, so wash the affected area twice a day with a non-greasy cleanser.1,6 The skin needs a certain amount of oil to maintain its natural condition, so avoid strong washes with strong soaps.
There are other treatments available at pharmacies for treating acne. This usually contains antibacterial agents such as benzoyl peroxide (eg Oxy and Clearasil Max).
Along with its anti-bacterial effects, benzoyl peroxide can dry out the skin and cause it to peel off dead skin. Taken together, these effects make it difficult for the pores to close and the infection to grow.
Benzoyl peroxide can cause redness and itching, especially in the beginning. This is usually stable if you reduce the amount of time you spend on it. You can then build your consumption gradually.
There are no home remedies for acne that will work immediately. It can take weeks, if not months, for significant results to emerge. If home remedies do not work a
