What is Acai Sorbet?

Acai sorbet is a refreshing frozen dessert made from the nutrient-rich acai berry.

Acai berries come from the Amazon rainforest and have become popular as a "superfood" in recent years because they are high in antioxidants and good for your health.

The Acai Berry

Acai berries grow on the acai palm tree and have a deep purple color. They are naturally low in sugar but packed with antioxidants, fiber, and healthy fats like omega-3s and omega-6s.

The antioxidants in acai berries – particularly anthocyanins which give them their rich color – are believed to have anti-inflammatory and brain-protective properties. Multiple studies have shown that acai may help lower cholesterol and fight cancer, but more research is still needed.

The sorbet also provides a good amount of fiber which supports healthy digestion.

Compared to sugary ice creams, acai sorbet can be a more nutritious dessert or snack option in moderation. The antioxidants may even keep the brain and body young.

Acai Sorbet Ingredients

To make acai sorbet, frozen unsweetened acai puree is blended with a sweetener like agave nectar or cane sugar, along with a touch of lemon juice.

Some recipes also contain other fruits like blueberries for richer flavor.

After that, the mixture is churned like ice cream to add air and make it light enough to scoop. Acai sorbet is not made with dairy, is vegan, and has a lot less fat and calories than regular ice cream.

A lot of store-bought acai sorbets are made with fair trade, organic acai puree that comes straight from Brazil. Good brands do not use artificial colors, flavors, or sweeteners in large amounts.

How to Enjoy Acai Sorbet

You can put acai sorbet in a bowl or use it as the base for an acai bowl. Then you can add fresh fruit, granola, nut butters, and other healthy foods on top.

For extra nutrients, some people mix acai sorbet into smoothies or protein shakes. The sorbet adds a rich, berry flavor with hints of chocolate.

Acai sorbet is a fun way to enjoy the health benefits of this amazing Amazonian superfruit.
