What is a Miraculous Mosquito Hack?
Recently, in Indonesia, a test was conducted by scientists that mutated dengue-carrying mosquitoes have reduced dengue fever cases by 77%.
About Trial:
- Scientists used mosquitoes infected with "miracle bacteria" and released them into cities. These bacteria reduce the mosquito's ability to spread dengue.
- In this test, mosquitoes were infected with Wolbachia bacteria.
- Wolbachia does not harm the mosquito, but it travels to the same parts of its body where the dengue virus needs to enter.
- Due to this bacteria, mosquitoes are not able to spread the dengue virus effectively, they can not replicate the dengue virus, so there is less chance of infection in mosquito bite again.
- According to the World Mosquito Program team, this method can be the solution to the virus spreading around the world.
-
This technology has proved to be successful and mosquitoes have been released all over the city. This project will be taken up in more areas to eradicate dengue.
