There are many theories regarding the origin of headache. The brain itself is not sensitive to injury, but the membranes or tendons that surround it are extremely sensitive. Any irritation such as inflammation, strain, tension, deformity or expansion causes headache. Excessive tension of the eye and skull muscles also causes pain.

General causes

Muscle strain:
Generally, headache is caused by strain in the muscles of the skull.

Physical stress:
Long physical labour and working for hours sitting in front of a desk or computer can cause headache.

Emotional stress and genetic reasons:

Being in a bad mood or thinking about something for a long time can also cause headache. Genetic reasons are also responsible for headache up to 20 percent. For example, if someone in the family has migraine, then he/she can also suffer from it.

Lack of sleep:
Lack of sleep affects the entire nervous system and the brain muscles get stretched, which causes headache. Apart from this, not eating on time sometimes leads to lack of glucose in the body or gas formation in the stomach, which can cause headache.

Alcohol:
Headache can be caused by consuming too much alcohol.

Illness:
Other diseases such as eye, ear, nose and throat problems can also cause headache.

Environmental factors:
These factors are also responsible for severe headache, for example, carbon monoxide emitted from the engine of a vehicle can cause headache.

Types of headaches

Headache can be of the following types:

1. Mild - Mild pain occurs due to inflammation of the cavity of the skull. This pain increases with shaking the head, bending, coughing, exertion, alcohol, fear, menstruation etc.

2. Pulsating - Pulsating pain occurs due to hyperemia, stomach disorder or expansion of the artery inside the skull. This pain reduces on lying down and increases on walking.

3. Impulsive - Impulsive pain occurs due to neuralgia. This pain comes and goes in a jolt.

4. Rhythmic - This type of pain occurs due to expansion of the artery of the brain, arteriosclerosis and hypertensive tension.

5. Piercing - In hysteria it feels as if someone is making a hole in the skull.

6. Continuous - Continuous pain occurs due to brain abscess, tumor, cyst, bleeding and meningitis.

The cause of headache is decided or the disease is diagnosed based on the location, time, type of headache and other symptoms and signs of the body.

Generally, there are four types of headaches:

Migraine, tension headache (muscle strain), tumor headache and

Sinus headache.

Solution

Get enough sleep:

Make sure to sleep for at least 6-8 hours at night and try to keep the same schedule of sleeping and waking up.

Do not take tension:

Instead of taking tension of being at the top in this fast-paced life, make a habit of living normally along with the competition and take the help of yoga, meditation, hobby classes, games etc. to reduce tension.

Exercise:
Exercise plays an important role in preventing headaches because it releases endorphins in the body, which act as a natural painkiller for the body.

Avoid smoking and alcohol:
Smoking affects blood vessels and blood circulation, which does not allow proper blood circulation in the muscles and causes severe headache. Consume less alcohol. Also, to avoid dehydration, one should drink plenty of water after drinking.

Liquid is important:
Sometimes dehydration also causes headaches. Minor headaches can be prevented by taking plenty of water and other healthy liquids.

Stretch the neck:
Don't forget to stretch your neck and the rest of the upper body every once in a while, especially if you work for long hours at a desk, computer or laptop.

Eat well:
What you eat affects the chemistry of the brain and can also change the size of the blood vessels. Not only this, one can also be allergic to certain foods, which can cause headache.

Avoid taking too much caffeine:

To avoid work stress, people keep drinking a lot of tea, coffee etc., which contain caffeine. Taking too much caffeine increases the chances of headache.

Do not take too much medicine:

Taking painkillers repeatedly can also be the reason for headache, because taking painkillers even for mild pain makes the body get used to them. Doing this continuously for two to three months causes headache to return and does not get cured until the painkiller is taken.

Treatment: First of all, the cause of headache should be found out and proper treatment should be done for it. Rest is essential.
