What is a computer virus? What are its types?

      Viruses are minimal programs that execute automatically inside our system and affect the performance and functioning of our computer system. The virus can steal your personal information or, rather, can hack your pc too and many more. Viruses execute automatically without the user's permission, so it's important to know every detail and type of virus to stay protected. Now let's see the different types of viruses that crept into our computer systems. Before that, let's see the source of a virus's dig inside our system.

1. MALWARE

       Malwer is not a virus, but rather it is malicious software that damages your system to a great extent without your permission. It includes viruses, spyware, trojans, etc. 

 

2. SPYWARE

         spyware is something that is mostly used by hackers to steal information. Spywares are software installed in a system, collects all its details, and sends it back to the developer. 

 

3. SCAREWARE

        Scareware gets installed in our pc from internet. Sometimes, you might have noticed that when you browse something on the internet, you might have seen links that would display the message click here to download software or scan your system, etc. Never click on that; these are generally scareware.

 

4. ANTIVIRUS

        Antivirus is software that we install on our pc to prevent us from virus attacks. There are different types of antivirus with some special features; some deal with internet security while some deal with files or viruses that crept inside from pen drive or any other source, etc. So it is just that everyone should have good antivirus software installed on their pc to be protected from viruses. 

 

5. BOOT  SECTOR VIRUS 

         boot sector virus is termed a dangerous virus because it affects the master boot record of your system, and it's almost very different from removing. It usually requires a full system format to remove it. 

 

6. ROOTKIT

        A rootkit virus is a virus that doesn't get detected by antivirus software in most cases. It is a type of malware and infects our system by installing a rootkit. By installing these rootkits in our system, anyone can gain full access to our pc. 

 

7. OVERWRITE VIRUS 

       these viruses overwrite the original files with their own unique codes. 

 

8. RANSOMWARE

        this type of virus can disable a smartphone and make victims pay a ransom to gain control over their devices. More recent ransomware has even been able to get access to administer privileged of mobile devices and change the PIN or security code. 

 

9. PHISHING

        this sort of malware imitates a legitimate authentication or login page. When users input their account or login details, malicious third parties can steal these credentials and use them. 

 

10. TROJAN

         this sort of malware attaches itself to a seemingly harmless and legitimate program or app. Once the program or app is installed, the TROJAN  is activated and infects the phone.
