A colon cleansing program or colon therapy involves some alternative medical therapies to remove accumulated fecal waste and toxins from the colon or colon. Colon cleansing can be in the form of water therapy, such as colonics, or taking oral supplements.
During colon hydrotherapy, the patient is given an enema, with which he injects water mixed with herbs using a special device. In oral supplements, fiber, herbs, dietary supplements, oxygen powders or laxatives, the patient uses to thoroughly cleanse the colon.
Colon therapists believe that the accumulation of fecal waste in the walls of the colon can also provide a habitat for human parasites such as hookworms and tapeworms. Toxins from this accumulated waste can also cause a poisoning of the body called auto-intoxication, which is based on the medical practices of Ancient Greece. However, this belief was discredited in the 20th century.
There is no scientific evidence to prove that colon cleansing is beneficial. According to some experts, stool itself is not harmful because the body can flush it out naturally without special help of oral treatment or colon cleansing methods.
According to them, even some types of colon cleansing treatments can be very harmful to the body. Like the equipment used during enema administration, it can cause damage to the anus and can also cause infection if not properly sterilized. Some enema preparations have also been linked to cardiac arrest and loss of body electrolytes. Also, frequent colon cleansing can interfere with proper colon function and lead patients to become dependent on laxatives or enemas just to allow bowel movements. Most of the herbs used in the enema can also interact with medications that interfere with the proper result.
Signs and symptoms associated with auto-intoxication, such as headache and lethargy, are likely due to malfunctioning of the bowels rather than toxins poisoning the body.
On the other hand, most dietitians and nutritionists believe that these symptoms are caused by toxic waste and a thorough colon cleansing is needed. Although some techniques can be harmful to the body, such as enemas, there are also products available that can help cleanse the colon in a natural, smooth way.
These products consist of organic and natural ingredients such as psyllium husks, which are high in fiber. Fiber is the body's natural helper in flushing out fecal matter and thus ensures safe cleansing. Most experts believe that regular bowel movements can lead to better health and a longer life.
One of the popular colon cleansing methods is the oxygen method. It is a scientifically formulated process that uses oxygen to flush out accumulated fecal waste through oxidation. During this oxidation process, fecal wastes are destroyed and provide beneficial oxygen to the colon and lymph nodes.
Using an oxygen-based product, oxygen is released into the blood vessels and flushes the accumulated toxic wastes from the colon. Through the smooth release of oxygen, this process creates a harmful environment for the bacteria that cause toxicity in the colon. These toxins are removed from the body, while the good bacteria remain to aid in proper digestion.
In the United States, all colon cleansing products are regulated by the US Food and Drug Administration, or FDA. So it is not wise if you would use products that are not FDA approved.
