Definition
The cell is defined as the structural and functional unit of life. It is the smallest unit that can carry out all activities of life. Cells are building blocks of complex multicellular organisms.
Cell as a unit of structure and function
Cells are the basic organizational units of life. A cell is the smallest unit of life in multicellular creatures. A cell is a basic unit of structure and processing that carries all the life characteristics of a creature and has the ability to live its life alone under appropriate conditions. Like other plants and animals, our body consists of living building blocks that are too small to be seen with the eye, which we call cells. A cell is a unit of structure and function in living organisms. The organism's function results from the sum of activities and interactions of different cells and different components of the cell. In animals, e.g., muscle cells contract and relax, nerve cells transmit nerve impulses, gland cells secrete, red blood cells carry oxygen, and some stomach cells secrete gastric juice. Similarly, in Plants, xylem cells conduct water and minerals from soil to the aerial part of plants. Phloem cells translocate food etc... As they perform different functions, they show great variation in shape and size. Despite the structural and functional diversity, the plant and animal cells have a common organization plan.
Discovery of cell
The study of the cell (Cell Biology) began with the discovery of cells by Robert Hooke in 1665, who reported his work in his famous publication Micrographia. He prepared and studied thin sections of cork under his self-made compound microscope. The internal structure of a cell, whose existence was first seen by Robert Hooke under a microscope in 1665, was later determined in more detail using an electron microscope.
Division of labor among Cells
In multicellular organisms, there is a division of labor among cells. Different cells are specialized for different functions. The organism's function results from the sum of activities and interactions of different cells and different components of the cell.
Basic components of a cell
A cell consist of the following basic components:
1) Plasma membrane, also a cell wall in a plant cell.
2) Cytoplasm, containing cell organelles.
3) Nucleus with nuclear or chromatin material.
Type of cell
Cells are the functional units of life, in which all of the chemical reactions necessary for the maintenance and reproduction of life take place. They are the smallest independent units of life. There are two basic types of cells: prokaryotes and eukaryotes. The prokaryotes lack nuclei and other membrane-bound organelles. These simpler (prokaryotic or Prokaryotes; "before nucleus" ) cells are classified into Archaea and Eubacteria.
All Eukaryotes ("true nucleus") have cells with membrane-bound nuclei containing DNA. In addition, Eukaryotic cells contain many other structures called organelles (" little organs") that perform specific functions. Eukaryotic cells also have a network of specialized structures called microfilaments and microtubules organized into the cytoskeleton, which gives shape to the cell and allows intracellular movement.
Cell Theory
According to cell theory, all living organisms are composed of cells and cell products.
The salient features of Cell Theory in its present form are:
1) All organisms are composed of one or more cells.
2) All cells arise from pre-existing cells
3) Cell is the basic structural and functional unit for all organisms.
Effect of Cell Theory on Biological Field
The Cell Theory is one of the most important fundamental generalizations in Biology. It has wide-ranging effects in all fields of biological sciences. After the Cell Theory was presented, many cell details were studied, resulting in which the Cell Theory was extended.
All living organisms are composed of cells. The cell is the basic structural, functional, and biological unit of all known organisms. A cell is the smallest unit of life.
The human Brain contains 80 Billion cells. It has been estimated that human contains somewhere around 40 or 60 trillion cells. Most cells are small and seen only with the help of a microscope, except eggs of vertebrates and some long nerve cells.
