WHAT IS 5G?

5G is fifth generation wireless technology designed to connect everyone and everything around surpassing the 4G network used now. Downloads and streaming should happen literally without delay. Cars will talk to each other to prevent collision. Virtual reality can finally be achieved with real time response. Not to mention industrial benefits like remote surgery and drone control.

PREVIOUS NETWORKS-

1G-(1980s) bought phones, 2G-(1990s) sending text messages instead of calling,3G-(2000s) excessing internet, 4G-(2010s) fast speed and smartphones. And now taking the development to the next level. 5G network is being launched with even more fast speed and it allows for greater connectivity of devices simultaneously.

5G mobile networks or 5 th generation wireless system denotes the proposed next major phase of mobile telecommunication standards beyond the current 4G/IMT-Advanced standards. It uses some radio frequencies in a band known as sub6. From 600Mhz to 6Ghz. Part of which is also used by current 4G LTE.

And 5G will also use a higher band of radio frequencies. From 24Ghz to as high as 86Ghz. All these new 5G radio waves can carry more data with higher performance, they can't carry it as far. So, to overcome this situation 5G will use a lot of small cells. These are small version of big cellular towers.

APPLICATIONS-

1. Virtual reality refers to a computer generate stimulation in which a person can interact within an artificial 3Denvironment using electronic devices. With the evolution of 5G virtual and augmented reality can be accessible to more and more people.

2. Further artificial intelligence which refers to the stimulation of human intelligence in machines (Robots) can be enhanced using 5G technology.

3. Another major work and progress is the internet of thing where many physical devices around the world can now be connected by using the internet. This enables the machine-to-machine interaction even without human interference.

ADVANTAGES-

1. High bandwidth – 4g can only master about 200mbps. 5G can handle up to 1gbps or more.

2. Low latency- 4G suffers from around 100 millisecond or so in response delay .5G reaction time can be as low as 1millisecond which makes everything happens virtually, instantly.to download a movie using 4G takes 40-45 min at least. But the same movie can be downloaded with 5G in 9 mins.

3. Dense connections – in a given square kilometer 4G can only manage to connect about 1/10 (4000 devices/sq.mt) the amount of device as 5G can (more than1 million devices/sq.mt).

DISADVANTAGES-

1. LIMITATIONS OF RURAL ACCESS- 5G might not bring about real connectivity for the predominantly rural areas. They might not necessarily benefit from the connection. Those living in remote areas countrywide cannot get access to any form of cellular connectivity. Big cities with large larger populations are going be the target of 5G carriers. As a result, max population will not benefit from 5G communication. 

2. DRAIN OF BATTERY ON DEVICE- For enhanced connectivity the battery technology needs to advance, where a single charge will power a cellphone for a full day. Otherwise, users may complain about cellphones getting hot when operating on 5G.

3. DOWNLOAD SPEED DON’T MATCH UPLOAD SPEED- The download speed is very high (up to 1.9 Gbps). However, the upload speed of 5G technology is rarely 100Mbps, which is not quite incredible.
