New Delhi: Ukraine's First Deputy Foreign Minister Amin Japarova said on Monday that India is a global leader and can help tackle important global challenges and promote peace. He also quoted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in September last year that today's era is not of war. Japarova on Monday discussed with Sanjay Verma, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs about furthering bilateral contacts and cooperation and shared her views on global issues of mutual interest.

Talking to reporters after the meeting with Verma, Japarova described India as a global leader and Vishwaguru who can play a role in tackling global challenges.

He said, "Russia is questioning the existence of my country. In the history of 1500 years, Ukraine has never attacked any other country. He said, We have never had imperialistic behavior towards our neighbors. We are the victims of a pre-colonial war without any provocation.
Japarova said that there is already an invitation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Ukraine and the President of Ukraine will also invite the Indian leader. When asked about India's economic relations with Russia, Ukraine's Deputy Foreign Minister said, "We are not in a position to give instructions to India regarding economic relations with any other country." She said that she understands that India should be pragmatic about diversification of energy resources, military contracts and political dialogue.
Sanjay Verma tweeted on the meeting with Japarova, "It is a pleasure to welcome Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Amin Japarova. We shared our views." He said that we talked about bilateral contacts and cooperation going forward. Discussed. After the Russia-Ukraine conflict started in February last year, Prime Minister Modi has held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin as well as Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky several times. However, India has not yet condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine. India says that this crisis should be resolved through diplomacy and dialogue. The Ministry of External Affairs has said that India shares warm and friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation with Ukraine.
