Which Health conditions we should follow and its determinants?

In the same way that disease was changed from a state to a process, so was health. The World Health Organization (WHO) was at the forefront of the development of this process in the 1980s. This led to a redefinition of health as a resource for living, rather than a state, rather than a dynamic state. In 1984, the WHO revised its definition of health as “the degree to which a person or group is capable of realizing aspirations and satisfying needs and of adapting or coping with the environment”. In 1948, the WHO proposed a new definition of health. “Health,” as the WHO put it, “is a state of well-being in relation to physical, mental and social health, and not a state of disease or infirmity.” This new definition was praised by some as innovative, but was criticized by others as being too broad and not sufficiently measurable. For many years, “health” remained an impractical ideal. Most discussions of health returned to the practical model of the biomedical approach.

Health is not a state but a resource for living. It’s a positive concept that emphasizes social, personal resources and physical capacities. Thus, health refers to a person’s ability to cope with stress, acquire skills, maintain relationships, and recover from adversity. All of these  forms resources for resilience and independent living, which opens up many opportunities for learning and improving health.

DETERMINANTS :

Generally speaking, the environment in which a person lives is a major determinant of their health and well-being. It is becoming increasingly clear that health is not only sustained and improved through the development and implementation of health science, but also through the effort and intelligent lifestyle choices made by individuals and communities. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines the primary determinants of health as the social and economic system, the physical environment and the individual characteristics and behaviors of a person.

MENTAL HEALTH  :

According to the World Health Organization, mental health is “a state of awareness of one’s own capabilities, the ability to manage the day-to-day stresses of life, the capacity to work effectively and productively, and the capacity to contribute to one community.” Mental health isn’t just the absence of a mental illness. ‘Mental illness’ is a spectrum of conditions that affect one’s cognitive, emotional and behavioral functioning. These conditions can seriously impair one’s social, emotional and/or functional well-being, as well as one life and productivity.

Mental illnesses include schizophrenia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), bipolar disorder, anorexia nervosa (anorexia and bulimia nervosa), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and autism. Approximately 20 percent of adults in the U.S. and Canada are considered to have a diagnosable mental illness. Mental illnesses are the most common cause of disability. Some terms used to describe mental illnesses include ‘mental health problem’, ‘illness’.

MAINTAINABLE :

One of the best ways to keep your personal health in check is to eat a nutritious diet. A nutritious diet consists of a wide variety of foods from both plant and animal origin that provide your body with essential nutrients. Nutrients provide energy and keep your body functioning. They also help to build and strengthen your bones, muscles and tendons, as well as regulate your body processes. Water is essential for your body to grow, reproduce and maintain good health. Macro-nutrients are those that are consumed in large amounts. Micronutrients, which are vitamins and minerals, are consumed in much smaller amounts but play an important role in your body processes. The food guide pyramid refers to the pyramid-shaped list of healthy foods that are divided into different sections. The section numbers represent the recommended intake of each food group.

Making healthy food choices reduces your risk for heart disease, reduces your risk for developing certain types of cancer, and can help you maintain your weight in a healthy range.
