Why I Started Thinking About a Change

For five years, I relied on the same contact pesticide to protect my chili and brinjal crops. It did the job—until it didn’t. The whiteflies returned more quickly, the fruit borers weren’t dying off as expected, and I noticed I was spraying every 6 to 8 days without consistent results.

  • Choose products with multiple modes of action when possible.

  • Stick to label rates; more is not always better.

  • Give new products time to show full potential.

  • Don’t mix new insecticides unless advised by label or expert.

Resistance is more than just a notion; I have personally witnessed it occur gradually and then all at once. When applied carefully, newer treatments offer a method to keep ahead of pest cycles without oversaturating the area with poisons.

Because SC solutions have fewer chemical drifts, lower application volumes, and less exposure to non-target species, they also fit very nicely with sustainable practices.

What I Plan To Try Next Season

Along with SC formulations, I'll add more biological control choices for the upcoming season. For monitoring, I'm looking into pheromone traps and neem-based sprays. Reducing total drug reliance without sacrificing yield is my aim.

In addition, I'll attempt mapping my monthly pest pressure to create a personalised spray schedule—something I've never done before. These days, digital agri-startups' tools, such app tracking and SMS-based alerts, make this simpler.

Modifying pesticides may not be a significant change, but it changes crop management practices—less firefighting, more preparation. At initially, the benefits are modest: healthier root zones, more consistent fruit sets, and fewer leaf holes. However, they eventually result in improved economics, reduced worry, and increased self-assurance with every growing season.
