“Your education is absolutely useless if it is not built on the foundation of truth and purity. If you are not aware of the purity of your life, then everything is in vain. Even if you become a great scholar."
Meaning of education
The real meaning of education is all round development of man. Mere bookish knowledge or literacy is not education. This is just a step to reach the palace of education. According to the famous educationist Pestalogi – “Education is the development of our inner powers.” In the words of Swami Vivekananda – “Education is the expression of the perfection inherent in man.”
Mahatma Gandhi thought – “By education I mean the all-round and best development of the body, mind or spirit of the child or man.” In fact, the best education is that which, along with the development of the inherent powers of man, establishes the values of life in him and then develops his all-round development.
Role of Education – Education is one of the main elements necessary for the development of any country. Only an educated society plays an important role in making the country prosperous and prosperous. A man without education is described as a real animal.
Our ancient sages have also said about the role of education. That is, (education) is that which frees man from ignorance.
Since ancient times, when the role and purpose of our education has been so clear, then what is the reason that the level of education is declining at present. Today, even though educational development is taking place at the intellectual level, but the loss of sensitivity and values of life is clearly targeted in today's education system.
Importance of moral values in education- Indian culture has always emphasized the concept of moral values. In the absence of morality, the distinction between animalism and humanity ceases. Therefore, in the Vedas, Upanishads and all other religious texts, the imperative of morality in education has been accepted. That's why it is said-
That is, one who does not have virtues like knowledge, austerity, charity, knowledge, character and religion, he is a burden on the earth and moves like an animal in the form of a human. Even after such a clear view of the need of values in education, the need for value education is not being understood in the present education system. That education, which is useful in self-development and maintaining balance in life and society, has not been included in the curriculum.
There is also an implication here from the falling price level of education that today our education is only theoretical, not practical. Today education provides only degree to a student, does not guide him to earn a respectable livelihood. That is, his education has no value for him. Due to this price level of education, the trend of unemployment and crimes is increasing day by day in the country.
Consequences of falling price level in education – The consequences of falling price level in education are being seen everywhere in the society today. Corruption, robbery, arson, rhetoric, rape and other crimes spread across the country are the result of falling price level. At present, those who talk about the values of life become the object of ridicule. Looking at the immoral path on which our present generation is growing despite being educated, we can easily imagine the nature of future generations.
Due to the falling price level of education There are many reasons for the falling price level in the current education system, the main reasons of which are as follows-
(a) Objective of education – In fact, the aim of education is all-round development of the personality of the person, which has now remained only to make him literate. Modern education system has become a system providing only bookish knowledge, it does not give practical knowledge of life to the person.
(b) Lack of originality – There is lack of originality in the modern education system, due to which its level is decreasing day by day. Even after seven decades of independence, no government has been able to formulate a good education policy. The changes made to prevent devaluation in education are not enough to improve the quality of education. Yes, it has definitely improved so much that students are getting good marks in it.
(c) Lack of literature and art – Today more importance is being given to technical and vocational education. Forgetting our literature, civilization and culture, we are running after foreign culture and literature. Due to this, the intellectual and unreasonable logical level of the youth is increasing, but the level of life-values is decreasing day by day.
(d) Economic insecurity – The decline in the economic development of the society due to the lack of employment of education is also responsible for the falling level of education. Due to the modern education system, lakhs of youth come out of schools and colleges every year with high school, intermediate, BA, MA, B.Ed etc. degrees, but these educated youth have no secure future. They remain frustrated throughout their lives working as unskilled laborers on low wages in autonomous institutions and no morality can be expected from the frustrated person.
(e) Lack of physical labor – Modern education system and increasing telecommunication facilities have made today's student useless and paralyzed. As a result the condition of the educated class is getting worse.
“If you had not studied, you would have earned a hundred accounts, but they were lost after getting their education.
Neither capable of grazing herds in the forest, nor capable of carrying a burden in the market."
(f) Lack of moral values – Incorporation of moral values is essential to improve the declining level of education; Because no work is possible without a clear policy. The word moral is derived from policy itself, which means deliberately made rules or principles. But due to lack of moral values in today's education, rudeness, indiscipline, corruption and anarchy etc. are increasing continuously.
(g) Role of teachers – The role of a qualified and dedicated teacher is very important in education. That is why the teacher has always been revered, but today the teacher is not performing his role properly. He considers education only as a means of livelihood. He has forgotten that he has to build the future of the country.
(h) Role of Parents The role of parents is also important in the declining level of education. Earlier, parents used to give more respect to the teacher than God and used to give the same education to the children, but today even after the teacher scolded the student, the parents stand against the teacher, due to which many bad qualities like arrogance etc. it happens.
(i) Incorporation of materialism The modern education system has completely included materiality; As a result, education has become very expensive. Ordinary families are unable to afford expensive education and students move towards frustration, frustration, unemployment, aimlessness. Resource-rich people also get unqualified students appointed to high posts, their aim is only to earn, not the development of the country and society.
In this way the level of education is continuously falling, for which we all need to be very aware.
Thus we see that due to the decline of values in education, an atmosphere of dissatisfaction is spreading in the country and society. Knowledge is of utmost importance for society and country; Because only educated nation can be able to shape its future. By using the values of life to improve the material condition of the nation, we can choose the right path of progress.
