Much controversy has arisen over whether the swine flu vaccine is safe. Although, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) claim that it is safe, some remember that the 1976 swine flu vaccine did more harm than good. It is difficult to know what is right with many opinions. In the summer of 2009, swine flu became widespread everywhere. Normally healthy people get sick and die. The flu has hit a record number of people and does so during the common flu season. In that light, the vaccine is being implemented and released in November. This vaccine has previously been given only for high needs. These groups include; Pregnant women, infants and young children and people with chronic health conditions and health care workers. People are waiting in the cold to get swine flu medicine, there are lines everywhere. Many people are interested in the idea of getting the vaccine. However, there are some who are unaware of its safety. Some felt strongly that it was too early for the vaccine to arrive and to find out what kind of effects it was going to have. And these concerns came from the public and some health officials. Some pediatricians refuse to give a shot. And where did this fear come from. There has been talk of a swine flu vaccine that has plagued many in the seventies. The Drug Administration said the vaccine was safe and that the vaccine was made using the same approved ingredients used to produce the seasonal influenza vaccine, and that there were no new adjuvants that could be vaccine additives. Doubt prevailed among the people. He noted that more than five hundred cases of Gillian Barre syndrome had been reported and that the vaccine had been discontinued. They found that the vaccine actually does more harm than good. Officials responded by saying that today's vaccine is different from the vaccine of three decades ago. However, people felt that it was difficult to know all the side effects from the new vaccine. The vaccine comes in three options. It can be done in two doses for healthy people with an inactivated virus, or in a single shot without an inactivated virus, or by nasal spray for healthy people two years of age and older. And it contains the live attenuated flu virus. Known side effects of the vaccine are mild fever, muscle aches, nausea, headache, epilepsy, arm pain and runny nose. The incidence of GBS has been reported to be as common as a normal flu shot. Many people are still torn about what to do with the vaccine. Even the free article with all the information, although some say it is bad and others say it is fine, people have not yet decided. No one wants to vaccinate a child and know that it has negative side effects that can appear later. They do not even want that to happen to themselves. Some on the other hand are just getting shots and moving forward with their lives. So are people only concerned about acne on the whole vaccine issue? Time will tell.
