Chris Rock has confirmed he and Will Smith (who was also on the show) had a heated exchange. However, what exactly was said remains unknown. It seems all was forgiven… at least for now.
It is not clear what the full context was when Will Smith got up from the couch, and slapped Chris Rock. At least he didn't kick him, like Chris Rock thought he was going to.
Chris Rock said it wasn't Will Smith's fault and that he was a funny guy.
"It wasn't Will's fault, it was mine," said Rock. "You're not going to be the warmest guy. You're going to say, 'I can't believe that you did that, what a douchebag.' And, you're right. You're right, I am a douchebag.

A few days after that, Will Smith discussed it with Jimmy Fallon and the difference in tone between the two chat shows.

So what happened? Was it all in fun? Or, did Will Smith say something that Will Smith wasn't happy about? And, why didn't Chris Rock slap Chris Rock?
It is possible that the beef between the two actors was sparked when a line from Chris Rock's comedy special was revealed. The line is a reference to the time Chris Rock once messed with Will Smith, and compared him to Denzel Washington.
It was a light-hearted thing, but Will Smith took offense, and let his feelings be known in the studio. And, it wasn't Chris Rock who started it… it was Will Smith who reached his limit and laid it on thick.
Chris Rock didn't say anything until Will Smith started yelling. And, Rock wasn't thinking about Will Smith's feelings when he went off. He just knew he was wrong, and felt bad about it.
Nobody expects the smack talk to be hurtful. But, we've all been there. When something you say is taken out of context, you're not laughing anymore.
Perhaps, that is why Chris Rock's reaction wasn't to smack Will Smith on the back of the head. He knows, and feels bad about it. It is why Chris Rock doesn't have much sympathy for Will Smith for getting up and slapping him.
Chris Rock has so much going for him that Will Smith needs to understand that sometimes a little slap in the back isn't that big of a deal.
But, in the end, it's all water under the bridge, at least for now. And, the chummy chatter between Rock and Smith during the show proved the good feelings are back.
They had a great back and forth as they had an aftershow. It wasn't a slap in the face, but a slap in the back.
And, Rock felt bad about the whole thing… right up until the end of the show, when he and Smith hugged and had a grand old time.
Nobody likes to be told how they are not as funny as they think they are. But, if you are going to insult your opponent, you've got to bring them back down. And, on Red Table Talk, that is exactly what Chris Rock did.
Unfortunately, the audience was not allowed to hear any of the back and forth that happened after the incident. So, all we can do is take it as what it was – a heated exchange, and leave it at that.
