Education is a basic right for everyone. But, there are several issues that the education system is facing. We can't deny that the institutions and the government are working to reform the ongoing education system. However, there are still many problems which are needed to be taken care of. Below are the changes needed in the education system :-
- Rote Learning :- We have evolved with time; however, we still are using the method of rote learning. Not everyone can afford the school fees of education they offer. Hence, the government needs to take the matter in their own hands and get rid of rote learning from every school at every level. Schools must be advised to introduce conceptual learning which helps the students understand the concepts rather than mugging up what they are being taught. With this way, students will be able to retain the knowledge learned and will be able to apply them in real life problems.
- Evaluation System :- Marks obtained in exams still are the most important factor in deciding the future of the students and this burdens the students to get good marks in exam. Pressure of marks often decreases the students' productivity. Instead of judging the students by marks obtained from a 3-hour exam, the focus of evaluation should be participation of student in class activities, projects, communication skills, leadership skills and extra-curricular activities. By this, the students will do their best and will be evaluated at their best.
- Equal attention to all subjects :- In education system, everyone thinks that science stream is the best stream. Students are forced to learn high-profile subjects and subjects like arts, commerce, languages are looked down and not considered high profile. Instead, we should let the students decide which subject they want to learn instead of differentiating between subjects.
- Better training of educators :- Teachers play the most important role in students' life and hence, they should be given best training. After all, they play the most important role in shaping the future of the nation, the children. Teachers are also called as second parents. Thus, they should be trained in a way that they can be like parents to the children who live far from their homes. While teaching, they should make a congenial and home-like, friendly atmosphere, where students feel the love and empathy in the classroom and which will be reflected in their behaviors.
- Introduction of technology :- We are living in the future. We are living in the era of technology, so, technology and education cannot be kept apart. Students should be made familiar with technology from their early years so that is does not seem like an entirely new concept when they grow old.
- Personalize Education :- Schools should realize that grasping power of every student is not same. Hence, the way of teaching can't be the same for every student in a class of 60 students. Some students have fast learning pace and some are a bit slow. Teachers must observe each and every student and help them in learning. Obviously, it's not humanly possible for a teacher to pay attention to every student, schools must make use of technologies like AI and chatbots who can help the teachers as well as the students.
CONCLUSION :-
If the education system considers this points seriously, we can attain the best level of education possible. It is high time that we start taking education above the mediocre level that we have been engraved with and perceive education from the holistic approach.
