What Can You Do to Stop Wasting Your Time?

Have you ever felt that time is running away from you? It's like you're always trying to do more but never have enough time to do what you really want to do?

Well, you are not alone.

Most of us are guilty of spending too much time on Netflix, Instagram and other social media platforms. However, there are loads of other ways we don't feel bad about spending our time.

There are such things as saying "yes" to too many responsibilities and being too committed to ourselves, being tough on ourselves, being too stubborn, or getting off track easily.

A busy life, as Francis Crick once said, is a wasted existence.

The truth is, we're all so afraid of wasting our lives. So here's what we can do to prevent it:

Keep macro goals in mind, but rely on microquotas to get things done.

We spend a lot of time because we get excited too quickly and give up too quickly after the initial excitement and motivation wears off.

We notice a new opportunity and decide to try it, but are disappointed when we don't get the results we expected within a few days.

We fall in love easily, but are disappointed when we discover that true love takes effort and sacrifice.

We are so accustomed to fast pleasure that we expect quick solutions and victories in many areas of our lives.

However, this is not only unrealistic, but also harmful.

Most valuable properties are difficult to obtain.

Whether it's the relationship you've always wanted, the career goals you've always wanted, or something else, it will take time, commitment, and effort.

Macro Goals and Micro Quotas can be extremely helpful in this situation.

Macro goals are your long-term goals. This is your futuristic vision.

We're not talking about weekly or monthly goals here; We're talking about your life in 5, 10, or even 15 years from now.

Micro Quotas are the smallest amount of work you can do each day to get closer to your Macro Goals.

It is what makes your goals attainable and measurable.

Let's say you want to be a millionaire in five years. This is your macro target.

Your Micro Quota should let you know exactly what you need to do each day to reach your goal.

It all comes from blending vision with progress. Action and dream. There is a difference between fantasy and reality.

If you want to stop wasting time, you need to know where you are going.

Because life is full of unexpected news, you can't always predict what your daily life will look like in a few months. However, you can try to make the most of each day.

Stop guessing and start watching.

We often waste time because we believe we are productive, while in reality we are just wasting time.

We tell ourselves that we "find inspiration" or "do market research" by browsing social media feeds for hours on end.

Since self-help gurus are preaching this, we start creating morning routines that take hours and less time to really get things done.

If that describes you, I suggest you start tracking your productive hours.

Download a free time tracker like Toggl or Boosted and track your work hours until you can clearly see how you spend your waking hours.

I've done this with hundreds of clients over the past few years, and the results have always been the same: We greatly underestimate how much time we spend getting things done.

We also greatly underestimate the time we spend on social media, news feeds, and other forms of distraction.

You don't have to follow every minute of the day for the rest of your life.

Just write down your working hours. Stop the timer when you go for coffee or take a break. Take a while to get a true picture of your daily activities.

You can stop watching when you feel that you understand your mistakes (and how to avoid them) well.

For the past half year I have been tracking my work hours as it helps me focus and keep track of how I am using my time.

As an entrepreneur, I'd like to know how much time I've spent on various projects and businesses to determine if they're worthwhile.

Your requirements may vary depending on your job and duties.

Make a "Current Priorities Cheat Sheet" for yourself.

Most people waste time sinking into endless to-do lists filled with tasks that aren't really necessary or urgent.

Still, we can't give up on these to-do lists because they make us feel active and productive.

A silly easy strategy that has helped me a lot over the last few months is to have a "Current Priorities Cheat Sheet".

I have a short sticky note on my desk summarizing my current life priorities.

These priorities may change over time, but it doesn't matter.

The important thing is that they serve as a daily reminder of the core activities I need to focus on (My Micro Quotas).

My to-do list currently consists of only two items: writing and working.

Of course, I have other things to accomplish, but if I can write and exercise, I will consider that day a successful one.

Doing the main task becomes much easier if you know your priorities and why you want to stick with them.

Most people fail because they try to do too many things at once.

I recommend limiting your "current priority" to 3-5 items at a time. If you have more than five priorities, you almost certainly have nothing.

Become the most forgiving person you know.

Most of us spend most of our time clinging to the past: people, missed opportunities, and our own mistakes, as well as being distracted, unable to focus and set the right priorities.

We continue to think about setba even though we know there is nothing we can do to reverse the past.
