Benefits of yoghurt

Yoghurt is a food product containing live probiotics, which are considered to be good for your health. And they’re not just for your gut. Dr Brian Goldman, a naturopathic doctor, author of “Zero Sugar Diet,” and friend of Real Simple, says that they’re also good for your skin. “

Yogurt’s probiotics can also help your skin,” he says. “Think of probiotics as the 'beauty supplement' your body needs to stay healthy, and lactic acid, an even more powerful probiotic, as the 'beauty cleansing agent' that gently exfoliates your skin without using any chemicals.”

So the next time you’re shopping for skincare products, you should definitely consider investing in a bottle of yoghurt. It’s an easy and tasty way to moisturize your skin and give it a boost of good bacteria. We’ve rounded up 10 great yoghurt skin products here. Here are some tips to help you choose which one is best for your skin. View As: One Page Slides

Yoghurt, as a general rule, has a lower pH level than most skincare products. It’s also more acidic than most cleansers. This means it’s the ideal cleanser for your skin. “The acidic environment of yoghurt on your skin can exfoliate it, strip the excess oils and makeup, and break down bacteria and acne-causing cells,” Goldman says. As an added bonus, the probiotics can also help balance your skin’s pH level and reduce inflammation.

According to Goldman, your skin should be slightly alkaline in order to create a healthy environment for healthy collagen production, which is what allows the skin to look healthy and hydrated.

“Acidic products, on the other hand, can make your skin look dull and lack the strength to resist wrinkles,” Goldman says. But don’t worry: it doesn’t take much to raise your skin’s pH level, so you shouldn’t have to try it like you’re travelling to Mars.

“You can easily do this by drinking a glass of lemon water or eating a slice of lemon,” Goldman says. “Lemons also help your body absorb more nutrients from your food, so you’ll also have an energy boost and your digestion will be better.”

Yoghurt can help treat and prevent acne. You’ll notice that yoghurt contains large amounts of Lactic Acid (a.k.a. “beauty acid”), which is what kills acne-causing bacteria in your skin.

It’s also full of helpful bacteria. Yoghurt is loaded with beneficial bacteria, like Bifidobacteria, which help with your digestion and also fight infections. This “good” bacteria even helps with skin inflammation.

The lactic acid in yoghurt is also responsible for a variety of other skin benefits.

Yoghurt can help keep your skin moisturized. As we said above, it’s packed with beneficial bacteria, which help reduce your skin’s oil and prevent clogged pores.

It’s also packed with antioxidants. Whole Foods warns that when you use yoghurt as a replacement for moisturizers, you run the risk of it drying out your skin, so it recommends taking it easy on it if you’re applying it to your face. But if you don’t apply yoghurt, you’re fine!

It can be used to whiten your teeth. Yoghurt is high in calcium, which helps strengthen your enamel, Goldman says. This can help whiten your teeth.

It can also work as a facial mask. “Dab a few teaspoons in a bowl, and then squeeze out the excess,” Goldman suggests. “Let it sit for 10 minutes and then rinse it off with warm water.

Then you can treat your skin to a rich lactic acid treatment or a calcium and vitamin D-rich supplement.” If you really want to go full out, he says, use it as an exfoliator to slough away your dead skin cells.

Oh, and don’t forget to eat the yoghurt. “Make it a habit to eat a spoonful of yoghurt in the morning as part of a healthy breakfast,” Goldman says.
