1. Variety of Story Topics.
Since most of the films I mentioned above are comedies, you can see the whole idea behind streamable movies through jokes. What better situation than a movie featuring an absurd plotline and characters, who are ludicrously funny and silly in equal measures. For example, in A Quiet Place: Part II, Dr. Alan Cooper takes advantage of his wife being ill to form a dysfunctional relationship, which leads to him hiring private investigators like Rick Grimes to protect her until he figures out how to save the world. When will the series end? Will it be after another part or will we get the second season? We never know! Personally, I enjoy a wide variety of narratives. It gives you such a diverse range of human interaction and story telling to explore. Not only does that keep the series exciting, they also make it fun because of the ridiculousness of characters and comedic situations, among others. I honestly enjoy watching a comedy series that explores crazy ideas, while still being comical enough to laugh along with the absurdity involved!
2. More Original Films.
I think that I would have liked to have seen more movies featuring original stories in the last 10–15 years, not only through streaming providers. These days, everyone seems to focus on sequels, reboot stories, new adaptations, and anything else but original movies to fill our moviegoing libraries or schedules. Sure enough, there have been quite a few of them too. Some like Godzilla vs Kong (2018), Bad Boys vs Evil Dead II (2017), Soul (2018), Blade Runner: Final Cut (2015), Among Us (2015), Venom 2 (2014). Others are movies like Ex-Machina 3D (2020), The Matrix 4 (2014), Interstellar (2016), Trolls 2 (2016), Man of the Year 2: Revenge of the Titans (2014), Superbad 2 (2015), and Dope (2007). Even though it wasn’t easy to go back and revisit old memories, I feel overall most audiences could say they enjoyed seeing more originals in the last 16–20 years. Besides Hollywood and streaming services, some of the biggest studios like Warner Bros., Lionsgate, Lionsgate, Marvel Studios, etc., produced over 90% of original stories, making it difficult to break the legacy of those franchises.
3. Better Quality Content.
I think Hollywood just took away most of the quality titles available for streaming services over the last 10–15 years and we are slowly going back to quality movies. Which is really disappointing to say. Quality movies aren’t exactly synonymous to poor quality movies, though. Movies like Hidden Figures, Midnight Mass, Gone In Sixty Seconds, Raging Bull, Striptease, Bohemian Rhapsody, Narcos, Little Fires Everywhere, Inside Out, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Jaws, and many others. It’s quite shocking how expensive a full feature movie is nowadays compared to what it used to be a matter of decades ago. Just like this, there are different titles with varying quality levels. One example is Captain Marvel starring Kevin Hart and Chris Evans. While there still isn’t a sequel yet in theaters (which is sad) each new Marvel film has its own unique concept. On top of that, some Hollywood studios are working on movies like Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. In order to stay relevant, new studio projects are often delayed by multiple months and then released later in 2021.
