Today internet is used for different purpose depending upon the requirement.
1. Communication
At the moment, the easiest thing that can be done using the internet is that we can communicate with the people living far away from us. Now people can not only chat but can also do the video conferencing. It has become extremely easy to contact the loved ones who are in some other part of the world. Communication is the most important gift that the internet has given to the common man. Email, social networking sites are some prime example of it. This is one such gift of the internet which is cherished by everyone and has made our life easier too much extent. The internet is mostly used by the people as a fast and cheap means of communication. Many services provided by the Internet such as e-mail and instant messaging help the users to communicate quickly and cheaply over long distances, E-mail is an application of Internet that allows a user to send and receive text messages electronically. To use the email services, a user requires an account on a mail server. The account is created by the user by providing a username; a password and other personal information such as an address and contact number. Each time the user wants to access the email services, s/he has to log on to the server using the username and the password provided during account creation. If the username or the password provided by the user is invalid, then that user is considered as an unauthorized user and is prohibited from using the service.
2. Research
In order to do research you need to go through hundreds of books as well as the references and that was one of the most difficult jobs to do earlier. Since the internet came into life, everything is available just a click away. You just have to search for the concerned topic, and you will get hundreds of references that may be beneficial for your research. Research is one such thing which has got lots of benefit from this evolution of internet. Research process has now got wings and has gained the most due to the internet.
3. Education
In the field of education, the Internet is widely used for learning and teaching. The Internet not only helps the students to search information on various topics of their interest but also proves useful for the students to search information on various topics of their interest but also provide notes, lectures and syllabus to students through their required information from it. If the website of an educational institution supports e-learning, then the students can participate in online lectures through simulations, Web Based Training, etc. The Internet also provides the Usenet service, which contains many Newsgroups through which a user can submit as well as obtain the articles on different topics. The members of a newsgroup connect to each other and have discussions through the Usenet network. Usenet contains a number of message boards on which the articles are placed, and the software known as newsreader is used to read the articles published on the message board. Most of the newsgroups allow the users to submit their articles on the selected topics such as scientific research, social issues, religion and politics.
