What are the top 4 major types of drones?

Drones are called UAE (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles). In recent time’s drones are more familiar for their purpose in advanced technology. A Drone invented by Abraham Karem. He is the founding father of UAV. This article describes the four major types of drones used in recent times.

Four major types of drones:

  • Multi - Rotor Drone,

  • Fixed Wing Drone,

  • Single - Rotor Drone,

  • Fixed -Wing hybrid VTOL.

MULTI - ROTOR DRONE

Multi-rotor drones are the easiest and cheapest drones. It shares more than one motor, commonly tri-copters (3), quadcopters(4), hexacopters(6), and octocopters (8), so they are called multi-rotor drones. Importantly, quadcopters are more familiar with multi-rotor drone types. It has been widely used in aerial photography and videography. It costs up to $5k-$65k for pros. The payload capacity of a multi-rotor drone is small. It was much easier to control, take off, and land.

  • It was developed by George de Bothezat and Ivan Jerome in 1923. They named the drone de Bothezat - with six blades.

  • Multi-rotor drones are used for various purposes and various institutions. For example, the army, agriculture, thermal inspections, and aerial surveying. Multi-rotor drones require lots of energy and run on current battery technology, they can fly for shorter times.

Fixed Wing Drones:

  •  Fixed-wing drones are one rigid wing. It is designated to look at and work the airplane.

  •  It has only moved forward and cannot hold itself in the air.

  •  It spends less energy and is more efficient. The average flight time is a couple of hours.

  •  It covers longer distances. It is about more expensive. It is mostly used for aerial mapping, construction, agriculture, and security and mainly used for drone surveying commonly in forestry, pipelines, and coastal.

  • It costs up to $25k-$120k. It needs a lot of space while launching and landing.

Single Rotor Drones:

  •  Single-rotor drones are much strong and more durable than other drones.

  • They are designed to look and work more similarly to helicopters.

  • It has only one rotor but it has a big spinning wing and a tail rotor to control the direction.

  • It is strong and durable, much more efficient than others. It carries a heavy payload.

  • It is technically used for aerial LIDAR laser scanning operations.

  • It costs up to $25-$300k for pro drones.

Fixed-Wing Drones:

  • Fixed-Wing Drones are more modern and advanced.

  • Fixed-Wing Drones had fixed-wing and rotor-based designs.

  • Fixed-Wing Drones can take off and land vertically.

  • Fixed-Wing Drone's new category of hybrids in drone technology.

  • Fixed-Wing Drones are mostly used for drone door delivery.

  • Fixed-Wing Drones are not fully developed but as technology advances, it plays a major role in upcoming years.

  •  Other Significant Drone Types;

1. Small Drones:
These drone types are used for recreational purposes; they cannot perform commercial functions that other drone models carry out. Small drones are too light and lack the stability required for accurately capturing images.

2. Micro Drones
These are small drones, but they can still provide valuable intelligence because of their micro cameras. The British military commonly uses this drone, and it’s called the Black Hornet. Black Hornets can fly up to 25 minutes (single charge) and have a range of up to one mile.

 3. Tactical Drones
These drones are large without being bulky. Equipped with GPS technology and infrared cameras, they measure 4.5 feet and weigh 4.2 lbs. They are often used for surveillance work.

 4. Reconnaissance Drones
These drones measure approximately 16 feet in length, over 2200 pounds, and hover for 52 hours at 35,000 feet. They can be launched from the ground and are known as High Altitude Long Endurance drones (HALE) and Medium Altitude Long Endurance drones (MALE).

 5. Large Combat Drones
These drone types are approximately 36 feet long and are usually used to fire laser-guided bombs or air-to-surface missiles on targets. They have a range of over 1000 miles and can be used for up to 14 hours at a stretch.

6. Non-Combat Large Drones
Although large, these drones are not for combat. They are more complex than Black Hornet and are used for larger-scale recon missions.

     7. Target and Decoy Drones
These types of drones are used for monitoring and striking targets. The look      of the decoy drone usually depends on the mission.

    8. GPS Drones
This drone type links to satellites via a GPS hookup to map out the rest of their flight, collecting data that can be extracted to make informed decisions.

9.  Photography Drones
These are outfitted with professional-grade cameras. 4K camera drones can take high-resolution pictures. These drone types make use of automated flight mode and precision stability to take pictures covering vast spaces.
