What are the positive and negative effects of technology

 

Hello everyone. How are you all Today, we all are familiar from the word TECHNOLOGY many of us know that what this term means but many of us also don’t let me tell you that technology is the sum of any techniques, skills, methods and processes used in the production of goods or services or in the accomplishment of objectives such as scientific investigation.

Now the question comes in our mind that technology is bad for us or good for us.

Positive Effects of Technology   

It plays a very important role in virtually every part of our lives, whether we’re aware of it or not. There are a few ways in which technology plays an important role in a positive aspect,  which are:

1.               Health apps to track chronic illness and communicate about vital symptoms by doctors

2.               Health apps which help in tracking diet, exercise and mental health information

3.               Online medical records that helps in accessing test results and allows you to fill prescription

4.               Virtual doctor visits

5.               Online education and ease of research

6.               Enhance communication with others,  which can improve the feeling of connection

7.               Online education is also a very important factor in technology and to do research on something is also very easy. 

Each and everything have positive and negative side. So Now we will be discussed  the negative effects of technology: -

1.               Digital eye strain 

Maximum use of cell phones, computers and laptop can lead to digital eye strain. It is really harmful for our eyes,  and we need to take care about it.

2.               Musculoskeletal problems

When you use your smartphone,  then we put our head also in an unnatural position. This position put a lot of stress on our neck, shoulder and spine.

A small 2017 study found that addiction to smartphone use and neck problems.

An earlier study found that among teens,  neck shoulder pain and low back pain rose during the 1990s at the same time and the use of communication technology was increasing.

Overuse of technology can also lead to repetitive strain injuries of fingers, thumb and wrists If you are feeling pain using the technology, you can follow the steps to reduce issues: -

·        Take frequent breaks to stretch

·       Create a particular workspace

·       Maintain the proper posture while using devices

3.  Sleep Problems

Technology in the bedroom interfere with the sleep problem in a number of ways,   

A 2015 study demonstrated that exposure to the blue light device can suppress melatonin and interrupt your circadian clock.

Having an  electronic device in your bedroom place temptation at your fingertips,  and it can make switching off more difficult. It can make it harder to drift off when you try to sleep.

4.               Emotional Problems

When we use social media, we feel more connected with the people. If we compare ourselves with others you will feel inadequate or left out

In 2011 cross-sectional survey it was found that internet use was problematic for about 4 percent of the participants

Negative Effects of technology on kids

The 2014 researchers found out that even after taking out junk food and exercise,  technology appears to affect the health of children and teens

like adults, children who spend a lot of time on digital devices can experience symptom of eye strain. The AOA advise parents to watch for signs of digital eye strain in children and to encourage frequent visual breaks, 

 

Recommendation for screen time by age

1.    Younger than 18 months, 

avoid screen time other than video chatting

2.   18 to 24 months

Parents and caregivers can offer high quality programs and watch them with their children

3.   2 to 5 years 

Limit to one hour per day of supervised high-quality programming

 4. 6 years and above 

Place consistent limits on time and types of media. Media should not interfere with adequate sleep, exercise, or other behavior that affect health
