Nowadays, who on this earth wants to get overweight? In fact, every one of us wants to remain slim and trim. People use various methods to lose weight, and most of them adhere to dieting also. In the first stage, dieting produces good results, but later on, it adds more weight. Even research studies indicate that 90% of the dieters gain all of their weight back and sometimes more than that. Eat less and exercise more to burn calories. Though, we all are aware that shedding or losing weight is not as simple as it sounds. In fact, there are some pitfalls/dangers of dieting that keep us away from losing or reducing weight. The major pitfalls of dieting are as follows:-
1. Restriction on Some Nutrients -
Generally, some nutrients like carbohydrates and fats are restricted in dieting. But in reality, our body needs all types of nutrients. If we don’t take proper nutrients, our proper functioning body will be getting impaired.
2. Skipping Meals -
It is a fact that if we have a good metabolic rate, we can maintain or lose weight. If our metabolic rate is slow, we can gain weight very easily. So, if we skip meals, it will lower our metabolism to conserve energy. Research studies also show if we skip one meal, we take more calories in the next meal.
3. Intake of Calories through Beverages -
If we want to lose weight, we probably stress not eating more and not on what to drink. In fact, beverages, coffee with cream and sugar, sweetened juice, and sodas really contribute to weight gain.
4. Intake of Labeled Foods -
Most of us who go on dieting usually go for such food products that carry the label ‘lean,’’ sugar-free,’ ‘low calories,’ or ‘no fat,’ or ‘fat-free.’ Such a type of food is not always the best for losing weight. As a matter of fact, three chocolate biscuits contain 140 calories, whereas three non-fat cookies contain 120 calories. Apart from these, when we eat such products, we think that these products have very few calories and so we tend to eat more, as a result of which, we end up consuming more calories.
5. Underestimating the Calories -
It is a fact that most of the people who go on dieting usually go for dieting usually underestimates the number of calories they consume. So, it is essential to be more aware of the number of calories we take into our diet.
6. Not Exercising -
If we go on a diet and don’t exercise, it will work against the weight-loss program. Instead of losing weight, we are likely to gain weight. As a matter of fact, exercise has a positive effect on metabolism and helps burn some extra calories. Exercise increases metabolic rate, which ultimately reduces body weight. So, dieting is beneficial only if we exercise alongside.
