What are the myths about summer skincare.

Many articles are written about how to care for your skin in the summer, but there are even more beauty myths on this topic. We will debunk some of them right now.

Myth No. 1:

Sunscreen is enough for skincare in the summer:

Do you also think that a moisturizer for daily care in the summer can be put aside? All the same, the skin sweats and the cream roll-off. The sunscreen will cope with both care and UV protection.

This is a mistake. Moisturizing is needed in the active sun season more than ever. An only well-hydrated skin can cope with stress caused by UV radiation.

If your usual moisturizer for daily care is no longer comfortable, there is a reason to replace it with the following options:

  • moisturizing fluid + sunscreen;
  • moisturizing serum + sunscreen;
  • moisturizing sunscreen.

On holidays in hot countries, the skin needs more intense hydration. Apply hydrating agent not only in the morning and evening, and do not forget about it in the afternoon, after returning from the beach and showering.

Myth No 2:

Cosmetics with vitamins and oils are not needed in summer:

Many girls believe that the skin requires fewer nutrients and vitamins in cosmetics in summer, as there are more of them in the diet. And nutritious oils are an unnecessary link because, in the heat, the production of sebum increases, and no one needs excess shine.

A summer diet rich in vitamins brings tremendous benefits. But to stock up on them for future use, unfortunately, will not work.

Yes, in summer we usually get more vitamins from fresh berries, fruits, and vegetables.

But, as the medical expert of the Vichy brand, Elena Eliseeva, reminds us: “The skin gets them last. Whether she will have enough of the necessary substances from food is a big question.

Therefore, cosmetics with vitamins are no less relevant in summer than in winter. "

Popular in beauty formulas, vitamins C and E are powerful antioxidants that help heal UV damage.

As for the texture of the products, in the summer season, please pay attention to dry oil: it is instantly absorbed, does not leave a greasy film, and therefore has every right to a place in a summer cosmetic bag, especially with dry skin.

The skin's hydrolipidic film does not change its composition depending on the season; it needs lipids all year round. It is no coincidence that dry oils have become a trend in Sanskrit.

For owners of oily skin, a note: if sebum production significantly increases in heat, this may indicate dry skin. In the case of oily skin, this, oddly enough, is not uncommon.

Dehydration can result from too aggressive cleansing. So avoid alcohol formulas in cleansers, and don't give up on light moisturizers.

Myth No 3:

SPF in makeup is enough:

Many are accustomed to relying on any SPF product for sun protection, including primer, foundation, BB cream, and powder. This is a misconception that can harm your skin.

In decorative cosmetics, SPF 15–20 filters are often used, which is not enough for full protection. For most phototypes common in Russia, a filter of at least “thirty” is required.

Do not rely solely on decorative cosmetics with low SPF.

Full sun protection means renewing the product on average every 2 hours, and you won't be able to redo your makeup with such frequency.

“Yes, BB creams and low SPF foundations protect you from the rays of the city sun,” says Elena Alekseeva, medical expert of the Biotherm brand. "But if you spend a lot of time outside, this protection is not enough."

Be careful when choosing cosmetics: now, some products can simultaneously provide both decent care and full protection from ultraviolet radiation.

Myth No 4:

An alcohol tonic is needed in the summer:

Those who change their usual tonic to alcohol in the summer have the following logic: in hot weather, the skin becomes oily, all the time you want to wipe your face, and even acne appears. This is not true. So, it is necessary to dry the skin - and here, you cannot do without an alcohol-based tonic.

Small pimples, which often appear in the heat, are sometimes mistaken for acne and begin a fierce struggle against them, using alcohol-based drying agents.

But the fact is that in summer, our skin begins to produce sebum to counteract the sun's drying effect actively. Hence the increased shine.

We can start a vicious cycle by exacerbating this process: oily skin will begin to produce even more sebum for protection. And the more we dry it, the more problems there will be.
