Meaning of national language
The most spoken and understood language in any country is its national language. Each nation has its own independent existence, people of many castes, religions and languages live in it; Therefore, to strengthen the national unity, there is a need of such a language, which can be used by all the citizens of the nation and all the government work of the nation can be done through it.
Such a widespread language is called the national language. In other words, national language means the language of the people of a nation. Necessity of National Language – National language is also necessary for the mental and intellectual development of man.
No matter how many languages a man acquires, but to express his feelings, he has to take refuge in his own language. This gives him a sense of mental satisfaction. Apart from this, national language is also needed to maintain national unity.
The problem of national language in India - After the attainment of independence, many types of problems in front of the country were formidable. Among those problems was the problem of national language. This problem could not be solved even by law.
The main reason for this is that India is a huge country and people speaking many languages live in it; Therefore, one or the other opposition from one place or the other has been hindering the national level spread of the national language. Therefore, the problem of national language has become the most complex problem in India.
Recognition of Hindi as the national language – While making the constitution, the question arose as to which language should be made the national language. In ancient times, the language of the nation was Sanskrit. Gradually other provincial languages progressed and Sanskrit lost its pre-eminence. Urdu flourished during the Mughal period. Under the British rule, English became the language of the whole country.
English has become so settled in our life that even after the end of British rule, the dominance of English from the country could not be ended. As a result of this, even though Hindi has been declared as the national language by the Constitution of India, it is not being used properly. Although many scholars of Hindi and non-Hindi languages have supported Hindi as the national language, yet Hindi has not been able to get its proud place.
Obstacles arising in the development of Hindi as a national language. Hindi was accepted as the national language in the constitution of independent India, but even today many provinces of the country have not accepted it as the national language. Hindi is the simplest, sweet and scientific language in the world, yet the opposition to Hindi continues.
The spirit of progress and development of Hindi is lacking in independent India. Government efforts alone will not suffice for the progress of Hindi as a national language; But for this, the cooperation of the general "public" is also necessary.
Ideology related to the pros and cons of Hindi - Hindi is a language spoken in a wide area of India, which is spoken by about 35 crore people of the country. It is simple and comprehensible, and its script is also so intelligible that it is understandable with a little practice. Yet there is a section which does not accept Hindi as the national language. Most of them are people who are blind followers of English or supporters of provincialism.
He says that Hindi is limited only to North India. According to him, if Hindi was made the national language, then other provincial languages would become insignificant. There is a belief of this class that the knowledge of Hindi cannot give them success in every field. From this point of view, they say that English is the only contact language of the world; So it can be the national language.
Efforts related to the development of Hindi - the obstacles that have come in the development of the national language Hindi; They should be removed. Devanagari's script is a completely scientific script, but due to alphabet, headline, quantity etc., there is no speed in writing. The rules of Hindi grammar are very difficult for non-Hindi speakers. These should also be made simple, so that they too can take interest in learning Hindi.
The Central Government has given impetus to the development work of Hindi by establishing Hindi Directorate.
The future of the national language Hindi is bright. If anti-Hindi people can give up their selfish feelings and Hindi speakers work with patience, contentment and love, then Hindi language will become an ideal of national life, not a problem for India.
Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, had also said in reference to the need to establish Hindi as the national language – I have always believed that we do not want to harm or eradicate the provincial languages under any circumstances.
We only mean that we should learn Hindi-language for the mutual relation of different provinces. By saying this, we do not show any partiality towards Hindi. We consider Hindi as the national language. That language can become the national language, which is known and spoken by the largest number of people, and which is easy to learn.
