During the 2014 general election, political parties played an important role in making the public aware of the election by using social media fiercely. In this general election, the use of social media increased the voting percentage, as well as the awareness of elections among the youth. Through social media, a large number of youth came on the streets to bring justice to 'Nirbhaya', which forced the government to make a new and more effective law under pressure.
Social media is a great platform in the spread of popularity, where a person can make himself or any of his products more popular. Today, the trailer of films, TV programs is also being broadcast through social media. Video and audio chats have also been able to be smooth through social media, including Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram some major platforms.
While social media plays a positive role, some people also misuse it. Such people try to divide people by spreading maliciousness by misunderstanding social media. Cosacry and negative information is shared through social media, which adversely affects the public.
Many times the matter increases so much that the government becomes strict by misuse of social media and we have seen that the government has to impose a ban on social media in a state like Jammu and Kashmir. Social media was also banned in the peasant movement in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra so that anti -social elements could not carry out any major incident under the guise of the peasant movement.
