What are the essential items to be kept in an Emergency Survival Kit for a civil war zone?
Here are some crucial items to be kept handy-
1. Water:
In an emergency kit, water should be the top priority item, as drinkable water is the most essential element of survival. For drinking, sanitation, and treatment of injuries, at least 1 gallon of water is required per person per day. After the evacuation process, one person must have at best three days of water supply, whereas if someone is staying inside the house, at least 2 weeks water supply is required.
2. Food:
Food that is easy to prepare and that will last longer is the most suitable option. For emergency situations, the best food items are bottled water, canned or boxed milk, canned meat, canned fruit in juice, protein bars, dried fruit, unsalted nuts, white rice. One should have a minimum three days supply for evacuation and two week supply for homestay.
3. Medication and medical items:
Emergency drugs along with personal medical items should be available in the kit. Also, the kit should contain items to help aid the common symptoms of viral respiratory infections such as fever nasal congestion cough. Some important items are hearing aids with extra batteries, glasses, contact lenses, syringes, etc. Extra precaution and medication to be taken if there are infants and senior citizen presents.
4. Electronics Gadgets:
An emergency kit should contain a flashlight, cell phone, charger extra battery/ power bank battery-powered or hand-cranked radio.
5. Emergency contact information:
The names of all the people one would want to be contacted should be there in the emergency kit, Readily available contact information can be a lifesaver in the event of a medical emergency.
6. Extra cash:
Having some extra cash in the emergency kit is as important as documents. During emergency situations, credit/ debit cards may not work therefore liquid cash is important to cater to basic necessities.
7. Maps of the area:
For the emergency disaster kit, local maps along with a compass are very elementary and useful. It will help to get a clear picture with directions of the path while traveling. It is very handy to travel in the correct directions.

a) Keep one large garbage bag per person to use as ground matting/cover against exposure to rain / cold /storm /during forced march/evacuation.
b) In case of any emergency situation delete all unnecessary apps on mobile, take necessary action to conserve battery.
c) Do not carry large bags to avoid slowing down, fatigue and crowding.
d) In the event of warning sirens, take immediate shelter wherever possible. If you are in the open, lie flat on your stomach and cover your head with your backpack.
e) Do not light fires in enclosed spaces.
