what are the Effects and Risks of smoking Addiction, Quitting, Treatment

Is smoking harmful to your health?

Since at least the 1950's, health experts have linked smoking with lung cancer. Research continues to point out the many ways in which tobacco harms your health, from cancer to chronic (chronic) diseases.

Experts estimate that 16 million Americans live with a smoking-related disease. Each year, some 480,000 people die from smoking-related diseases. That means that for every person who smokes, at least 30 others are living with a serious smoking-related disease.

Are other types of cigarettes safer?

Many people believe that smoking is safer than smoking. However, smokers face a number of potential dangers such as smokers, including cancer. Chewing tobacco or smokeless tobacco products is safer than cigarettes. Smokeless tobacco use contains about 30 cancer-causing chemicals.

E-cigarettes (vapes), an emerging form of nicotine delivery, are different from traditional tobacco products. Vaping delivers nicotine that is more concentrated than cigarettes in a smoky, vaporized mist (vapor). Health risks from vape products range from asthma to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cancer.

How does smoking affect your body?

Using tobacco harms all parts of your body. Cigarettes not only inhale nicotine but also ingest more than 5,000 chemicals, including a large amount of carcinogens (cancer-causing chemicals), in your lungs, blood, and organs.

The harm caused by smoking can greatly shorten your life span. In fact, smoking is the leading cause of preventable deaths in the United States.

Pregnant women who smoke endanger their unborn babies, too. Potential side effects of pregnancy include:

Ectopic pregnancy, a life-threatening condition in which the fetus develops outside the uterus.

Miscarriage.

Reproduction.

Birth defects, such as cleft palate.

Low birth weight.

How does chewing tobacco affect your health?

Smokeless tobacco use can also lead to nicotine addiction. People who chew chewing tobacco may develop cancer of the mouth, throat, and pancreas. And chewing tobacco also causes gum disease, tooth decay, and tooth loss.

Is vaping safer than smoking?

The safety and dangers of electronic cigarettes remain unclear. Many e-cigarettes contain high amounts of nicotine. And vaping may also be a gateway to other nicotine addicts, such as cigarettes or chewing tobacco.

The vapor of e-cigarettes also contains other harmful substances, too. Inhaling these non-nicotine veneers may cause serious, sometimes fatal lung damage (called EVALI).

How are tobacco health problems diagnosed?

Diagnosis is based on your specific symptoms. For example, a smoker who suffers from stomach cancer due to ingestion of nicotine-containing juice will need a different test than a smoker.

If you smoke, your healthcare provider will ask for information about your cigarette use, have a physical examination and sometimes order tests (such as an X-ray to check your organ or electrocardiogram and other cardiovascular tests).

What are some of the possible side effects of smoking?

In addition to its known cancer risks, smoking causes many other (long-term) chronic health problems that require ongoing care. Some smoking-related problems that require treatment include:

Lowering HDL (good) cholesterol and increasing blood pressure (increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke).

Erectile dysfunction.

Decreased oxygen in the heart and other tissues (increased risk of coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, and diabetes).

Common diseases such as the flu, especially in children living with smokers.

Lung dysfunction (the ability to get enough oxygen) leading to COPD, asthma, bronchitis, or emphysema.

How can smoking cessation be treated?

Many smoking-related illnesses can be controlled by a health care provider. You may need:

Cardiologist (cardiologist) to treat any damage to your heart.

A pulmonary specialist in treating respiratory problems, such as COPD.

The oncology team to treat any cancer you may have.

How can I avoid getting sick from smoking?

The best way to avoid smoking due to smoking is to never start. If you smoke, quitting as soon as possible can prevent or reverse some of your health problems. In addition to smoking, you can:

Live longer.

Reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Reduce the risk of developing other conditions.

Feel healthy and have more energy.

Look and feel better.

Improve your sense of taste and smell.

Jump over.

How can I quit smoking?

There are many different ways to quit smoking. To be successful, you need to find a smoking cessation program that works for your personality. You need to be emotionally and mentally ready. You should want to quit smoking on your own and not just family or friends who are exposed to your smoking.

If you decide to quit, these tips can help:

Discard all cigarettes and anything related to smoking, such as loaders and ashtrays.

Do you live with another smoker? Ask them not to smoke near you or make them stop with you.

When desires arise, do not focus on them. Desires are temporary, so focus on why you want to quit.

Keep busy and find things you can do with your hands - doodling or playing with pencil or grass. Change any activities related to smoking, too. Take a trip or read a book instead of taking a cigarette break.

When you feel the urge to smoke, take a deep breath. Hold it for ten seconds and then release it slowly. Repeat this several times until the urge to smoke is gone. You can also try meditation to reduce the basic levels of stress.

Avoid places, people, and situations that you associate with smoking. Associate with non-smokers or visit non-smoking areas (such as movies, museums, shops or libraries).

Do not switch to sugar or sugar-based products instead of tobacco. This can lead to obesity. Instead, choose low-calorie, healthy foods. Try carrots or chopped vegetables with juicy branches, solid sugar-free sweets or frames.

Drink plenty of fluids, but limit alcohol and coffee
