What are the distinctions between criminal justice and psychology?

Psychology is the scientific study of a person's actions and ideas in order to understand their personality and reactive processes. A psychologist may examine a person for a variety of reasons. While criminology is also the study of an individual's behavior and cognitive process, the criminologist is looking for a definite outcome.

Both criminologists and psychologists strive to acquire insight into the individual by analyzing the mind. While this is done for the benefit of the individual in some cases, it is also done to keep the public at large safe from the individual in other cases.
