The Skeleton system of all living organisms functions as the supporting structure for muscles and other movements. The skeleton controls all activities in our body. Skeleton also helps protect the critical internal organs such as the brain protected by the skull, heart by ribcage, sternum, etc. There are two types of skeleton exoskeleton (A type of skeleton where bones are present outside of the body)and the endoskeleton(A kind of skeleton where Bones are present inside the body).
- In humans, an adult individual has 206 bones, and a child has 300. these 300 bones are later fused and become 206.
- Human skeleton is divided into two portions axial skeleton and the appendicular skeleton.
- Axial skeleton includes a skull, ribs vertebral column, sternum, and cervical vertebrae.
- The skull has total 80 bones. The skull bones are of two types cranial bones and facial bones.
- There are eight cranial bones called frontal, Temporal, partial, ethmoid, occipital, and sphenoid bones. Rental and Temporal are in pairs form.
- 14 facial bones are present in pairs except for mandible and vomer bone. All bones in the human skull are immovable except the mandible. Mandible helps in jaws movement.
- Vertebral column of humans has 33 bones that are present in pairs. The First seven bones of neck region are called cervical vertebrae. The second is thoracic region which has 12 bones. The third region is lumber with five bones; after the lumber is a sacral region with five fused bones and then comes the coccyx region with four fused bones.
- Sternum only has one bone, and the ribcage has a total of 24 bones present in pairs, and each team is 12 bones.
- The bones of the ribcage are divided into three regions. The first seven pairs of ribs are called true ribs, which are directly attached to the sternum. The 8, 9, and 10 teams are called false ribs connected with the vertebral column, and 11 and 12 pairs are called floating ribs.
- Appendicular skeleton has total 126 bones. The appendicular structure is divided into forelimbs, including hands and arms bones, and hind limbs, including legs and feet bones.
- There are total 60 bones in Forelimbs. Each hand has 30 bones. Humorous is the most prominent bone of the arm. The following two bones are the radius and ulna. There are eight carpals, five metacarpals, and 14 planes in one hand.
- Hind limbs also have a total of 60 bones. Each leg has 30 bones. The first bone is called the femur, which is the most complex bone in the human skeleton. The following bones are tibia and fibula. The feet region has seven tarsals, five metatarsal, and 14 phalanges of the finger bones.
- The shoulder region is called the Pectoral girdle, which has four bones, two bones at the left and two on the right side. They are called clavicles and scapula.
- The Hip bone is called Pelvic girdle. It has coccyx bone formed by the fusion of 3 bones called ilium, ischium, and pubis together called coxal bone.
- A small bone in the throat region is called hyoid bone, and three small bones, mullas, incus, and stapes, collectively called osicles, are present in the ear.
