What are the bones of the human body? 

 


Everybody wants to know about the human body. The human skeleton is an essential part of the human body. It is the structural part of the human body.  You should know about the bones of your body. 


 
Thoracic cage : 


The skeleton of the thorax is called the thoracic cage. It is primarily designed for increasing and decreasing thoracic pressure. Air is sucked into the lungs during inspiration snd expelled during expiration. The thoracic cage gives protection to the vital thoracic organs.  


 
Ribs : 


The ribs form the largest contribution of the thoracic cage. Each rib articulates with the vertebrae.  The upper seven ribs attach directly to the sternum through their own costal cartilages, and they are called true ribs.  The costal cartilages of the next three ribs are connected to the cartilage of the rib above them. Their connection with the sternum is indirect, and they are called false ribs. The rudimentary cartilages of the last two ribs do not connect even indirectly with the sternum.  They are called floating ribs. 

 

Sternum : 

The sternum is used for the collection of bone marrow. The sternum is a flat bone having an outer shell of compact bone and an inner core of spongy bone containing red bone marrow.  It is used for the collection of bone marrow samples, which is required for our body. It is suitable for bone marrow aspiration because it is subconscious and easily approachable. No structure is injured. It is most superficial. A bone marrow needle can easily puncture it. It contains red bone marrow throughout life. 

 

Clavicle : 

It is the beauty bone of girls. The clavicle is a modified long bone that transmits the limb's weight to the sternum.  It is also called the collar bone or beauty bone of girls. It is the only long bone that lies horizontally. It has no cavity.  It is the only long bone that is ossified in the membrane. It is the only long bone which is pierced by the cutaneous nerve. It is the first bone to start ossification in the body and last to fuse. It is subcutaneous. A cutaneous nerve pierces it. The clavicle presents two ends and a shaft, which is curved. It transmits the forces from the upper limb to the axial skeleton. It acts as a mobile strut for holding the upper limn free from the trunk to have maximum freedom of action. It forms an important part of the shoulder girdle and helps movements of the arm above the shoulder. It is probably the most common bone fractured by indirect violence due to a fall on the outstretched hand. The fracture usually takes place at the junction of the two curvature, which is the weakest point. The clavicle is the most commonly fractured bone.  It is commonly fractured at the junction due to a strong impact on the hand or shoulder. 

 

Femur : 


It is the largest bone of the human body. The arterial supply of the femur's head and neck is derived from the femoral and obturator arteries. It has a head, neck, and a shaft. Scapula : 
The lateral angle is on board and bears the glenoid cavity—the coastal surface is concave and very nice. The dorsal surface is convex, and it is divided by a triangular spine. 


 
Humerus : 


The upper end is rounded to form the head, which is almost round. The lower end is expanded.


 
Radius : 


The upper end of the radius possesses a disc-shaped head, and its upper surface presents a cup-shaped articular surface. Ulna : 
The lateral border of the shaft is sharp. The pointed styloid process lies medial to the rounded head of the ulna.

 

Hip bone : 

The anterior superior spine and pubic symphysis lie in the same coronal plane. The pelvic surface is nice.
It is a significant bone. The hip bone of a boy is narrow, and the hip bone of a girl is wide.  


Tibia : 


The upper end is much larger than the lower end. The anterior border of the shaft is most prominent. It is a nice bone. 


Fibula: 


The upper end is slightly expanded in all directions. The lower end is also expanded. It is also a nice bone.

 

Patella : 

Tapering apex is nice. The anterior surface is rough. The articular surface is smooth, which lies behind.

 

Sacrum: 


The upper end contains a large facet that is broader and wider transversely. The pelvic surface is smooth and concave. A crest marks the dorsal surface. Atlas : 
The posterior arch is longer than the anterior arch, and a groove marks the posterior arch for vertebral arteries and cervical spinal nerve. The posterior aspect of the anterior arch is marked by facet for the dens. Superior articular facets are elongated.

 

Axis: 


The body of the axis lies in front and the spine behind. The lower border of the anterior surface of the body is nice.

 

Cervical Vertebrae : 


The body of the vertebrae lies in front. The superior surface is convex transversely with a prominent lip on each side. Transverse processes are large and prominent, which contain foramen.

 

Parietal Bone : 


A groove marks it for the middle arteries. The superior border is serrated, and it is internally marked by a superior sinus, which lies in the median plane.  

 

Frontal bone : 


The orbital plate is flat, which lies horizontally. The convex part of the bone is directed nicely. The nasal spine is a projection from the nasal part.

 

Occipital bone : 


The foramen magnum lies horizontally, which is situated in the median plane. The basilar part is nice. 

 

Maxilla : 


Frontal process projects from the anterior part of the body of the maxilla. The palatine process of the maxilla is horizontal.  It lies in the median plane.  

Sphenoid bone : 


The superior surface of the greater wing of this bone is deeply concave. The optic canal is situated in the lesser wing. The superior surface of the body of the sphenoid is almost horizontal.

 

Mandible : 


The body of the mandible is horizontal. It is a significant bone of our body. 

 

Temporal bone : 


It is a critical bone of our body.  The structure of this bone is critically decorated.  It is the bone of the head and neck region. It is a significant bone.
