We have the highest adolescent and childhood obesity rates today than at any other stage in the world’s long history. Much of the blame for this is fast food, low energy society. We often feel safer to keep our children inside our home than to rush them in and out. The work we do to protect our children is detrimental to the health of our children.
Some work is being done to address the problem and better educate our children on how to get more involved, more active, and make the right choices about diet, nutrition, fitness, and overall health. The problem for most teens is to turn them away from a computer, phone, or television.
Video games are also making their way into the market by enabling and enabling kids to create games like the PlayStation 2 Dance Party Revolution and the new Nintendo Wii gaming system. These systems allow customers to actively participate in the game's adventure rather than sitting in an active environment. This is a great way to get teens away from their seats and activate. These games are fun for adults and have the same effects when it comes to activity. Who would have thought that we would actually encourage an exercise game?
Get out and be active.
Teenagers learn by example, and whether or not they care to accept it, they often enjoy working as part of a family. Go rock wall climbing or mountaineering. Go on a bike ride with the family. Camp at the big doors and go hiking, boating, or biking. Learn a new sport together. It is amazing how much fun it is to learn to scuba dive, and while you are at it, you both burn empty calories. Even though the sport you take together with does not involve much physical activity, it is more active than sitting in front of the television.
Join your teenager in a recreational sports team. There are all kinds of sports teams available in our community in which our teens can join. Those with no skills can join some leagues, and other leagues are competitive. Going out for a softball game, soccer game, and volleyball is a great way for the family to do something, and games and practices are opportunities for your teen to stay active.
Lawn work is another way to get out and be active with your teen. Most important, they burn more calories than a customer in your teen. This is easier said than done, but it is possible if you work to extract them. Find interesting things for your teen and focus on them instead of torturing them with activities of no interest (maybe not yard work). In any case, filling their time with activities also allows them time not to consume calories, which is something to consider.
Encourage your teen to eat healthily. Remove calorie-filled pastures, fruit juices, and energy drinks from your pantry shelves and encourage your teen to drink plenty of water every day. Introduce as many vegetables as possible into your teen's diet and get rid of the prepackaged convenience goodies that teenagers can empty at once. Getting your teenager actively involved in the preparation and cleaning for lunch will help them pay more attention to what they put into their mouths and the mess in the process.
