It is common to see a building structure painted in a wide variety of colors and patterns. There are three main reasons for putting paint on any structure. Firstly, it improves the aesthetics of the building structure. Secondly, it offers protection from water and sunlight and thereby, provides durability and sustainability for the structure.
Distemper Paint
Distemper paints are paints that are base with water. They are also called as cement paints because they can be applied directly on cement plastered walls without using a primer. Choosing a distemper paint is economical as it costs less and the durability is more than four years. The main ingredients of distemper paint are chalk, lime, water, and some pigment if coloring is required. Distemper paints are sold as putty and also in powdered form. Distemper paints can be called as an improved form of whitewash.
Cement-Based Paint
Cement-based paints are as well water-based paints but with cement as their base. Cement being the dominant element in this paint type and is the main factor for the firmness and strength of the surface after painting. There is no need to add oil or other organic substances to cement paints. Cement paints can be used for the internal and external walls and is primarily used on exterior walls to minimize water penetration and dirt accumulation.

Oil Paint
To manufacture oil paint, paint makers use a base which may be a variety of substances such as white lead or red lead, zinc oxide or iron oxide, titanium white, aluminium powder and lithophone Oil paints are a variety of paints that are slow-drying as the oil is still suspended in the paint. Paints that are exposed to air and still suspended in the oil, form a thick layer of paint which is tough and colored. It contains large pigment particles, with f filler or extender as inert. The paint maker uses a drying oil or oil varnish as the vehicle or binder which is the oil removable, or the binder.
Emulsion Paint
An emulsion is defined more specifically as the mixing of two liquids which do not blend easily and form different types of emulsions. Paint emulsion in particular is used to paint many different types of surfaces which may include the insides and outsides of walls, ceilings, wood, and even some types of metal.
Enamel Paint
An example of oil based paint with an excellent glossy finish is enamel paints. These types of paints consist of white lead, zinc white, along with some resinous matter and petroleum spirit. Also known to enamel paints are slipery lustor and glassy final coat, along with very good coverage and retention of color. The time enamel paints take to dry is dependent on the thinner used, meaning they can dry very quickly or slowly. Their distinguishing characters is that they are very strong, along with being stain resistant.
Textured Paint
Textured paints are made from coarse grains such as gypsum and sand, as well as ribbons, lace, leather, and even metal. For the purpose of achieving a rough effect on a wall, a water-thinned binder is employed. In today's world, one of the most popular trends in the home decor segment is the textured paint due to its appealing effect on walls.
Metallic Paint
A type of wall paint whose composition includes flecks of aluminium, copper, bronze, and stainless steel is known as metallic paint. Paints of this kind are greatly used for coating metallic wall surfaces on vehicles and for light and hardware fixtures.
Aluminium Paint
The oil varnish and aluminium pigment coating is a thin film whose overlapping flakes produce the aluminium paint. It is used as a binder for the light to reflect off to the varnish in order to heat the sun's radiation, and for the hand or hot water pipes and tanks. It is the resin which also helps the paint flow and made it strong and durable. All paints which are classified as aluminium based usually have a silvery finish. However, several manufacturers produce only one shade of aluminium based paint.
