What is power management?
Think of your strength as a limited resource, like money in an account. You start the day with a certain amount of money to spend, which varies from person to person based on factors, such as age, sleep, stress levels, medical conditions, and lifestyle. Throughout your day, many transactions (activities) happen as you drain and activate your account. Although you may not always be able to control your tasks, you can take steps to add more power to your account. Follow these 7 tips to increase your energy level and live a happier, healthier, more productive life:
1. Eat nutritious food.
We all know that a healthy diet is the backbone of well-being, but it is common to view healthy eating primarily as a tool for weight loss. However, according to the 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, a balanced diet of fruits and vegetables, low in protein, low-fat milk, and whole grains is what you need to gain full energy. After all, you are what you eat to some degree. Eat a variety of foods from all food groups to get a variety of nutrients that will energize you throughout the day. Choose fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables, especially nutritious dark, leafy greens, and broccoli, as well as oranges, including carrots and sweet potatoes. There are many types of fish and vegetables to choose from to get healthy protein options. Identify eating 3 ounces of whole grains, slices of bread, rice, or pasta daily.
2. Sleep for seven to eight hours a night.
Extra sleep seems to be a healthy habit that most people need to develop. We already know that we need at least 7 hours to close our eyes each night, so what prevents us from getting it? Think about how you can improve your major sleep disorders and be aware of this: Insomnia can exacerbate serious health problems, and negatively affect your mood, motivation, and energy levels. Sleep priorities are one of the best things you can do to set yourself up for a successful, powerful day.
3. Associate with the right people.
Increase the amount of time you spend with the people you enjoy. Connecting with others who are radiant and have the same interests will delight you and give you strength. On the other hand, people you are not related to or who have a negative opinion, who always complain, or who make bad choices will terminate your power account. Choose from the company you save.
4. Avoid new extremes.
News is an important way to stay connected to what is happening in the world. It can be informative, fun, and even constructive. Unfortunately, stories are often filled with stories of suffering. These stories can distort your view of the world and make you focus on your worst fears instead of seeing the surrounding good. You cannot avoid these issues altogether, but try to minimize your exposure if you can, especially during trying times.
5. Exercise regularly.
Do you find yourself feeling tired during the day? Have you ever been distracted by simple activities, such as shopping or running errands? Contrary to what you may believe, getting 150 minutes of weekly work recommended by the American Physical Exercise Guide can add to your energy account and not withdraw from it. How? Exercise reduces stress and tension, strengthens muscles, and increases endurance, which helps your body to function more efficiently among other bodily functions or activities.
6. Do something meaningful every day.
What do you feel most passionate about? Do you have a special talent that you would like to use more often or share with others? Do something you enjoy every day, even if it is as simple as cooking healthy food or listening to your favorite song. Putting effort into the things that are most important to you will help you to use and maintain your energy in ways that will bring out the best in you.
7. Consider positive thoughts.
Maintaining a positive attitude is another way to save energy. Another example of such thinking is called gracious consideration. For example, try making eye contact with a stranger and smiling, while thinking "I wish you well." This good deed, instead, can keep you from judging that person. Judging others may cause us to become self-centered, and that kind of bad communication can wear us down.
You will feel better with each step you take toward this important investment of self-care.
