What are short courses? Definition, Examples, Advantages and Disadvantages
Short courses are shortened periods of study regarding any subject that is connected to a career, employment opportunity, job or source of income that you would like to take on. Short courses usually last for weeks, or months.With such short courses you can take on a career in fields such as a certificate in nursing, certificate in midwifery, certificate in carpentry and so on. Upon completion you receive a certificate of qualification. It is advisable to get yourself enrolled in a certified institute, to avoid questioning the credibility of your academic documents.
One commendable advantage of short courses is that they are affordable. They range between 200,000 or two hundred thousand shillings to 600,000 or six hundred thousand shillings. However, it is advisable that the institute you get yourself. enrolled in will affirm your presence, Incase of unavoidable circumstances like losing your previous papers, yet you may need to replace them. Short courses may be building blocks for what may be your future career, for example, a certificate in nursing when supplemented may enable you to turn into a doctor.
They enable you understand your capabilities, interests, and weaknesses as a person. That is because it is always good to do something you enjoy, like, or love as a person, when life grants you the opportunity. They enable you equip yourself with a number of skills, due to the shortened period of study. You may also take on one, just to supplement your knowledge and skills as time your knowledge, skills, or talent may be lacking in one way or another.
The biggest disadvantage of taking on a short course is low wages or salaries, due to the limited scope of knowledge and skills. But this can be over by gaining a bit of experience which is likely to equip with the skills and knowledge that you may lack. Experience also equips you with knowledge and technical know-how of the market demands and trends. With a bit of luck and patience, you may also get yourself an increased pay.
The other disadvantage is stiff competition, since they are few in number yet those who can execute or need them are many. But once you have one, dedication is what you may need most to keep yourself afloat or with awew job that can put some money in your pocket. If you are looking at better yourself through studies, take the step forward.
There might also be a chance of increasing your horizons by widening your community, since variety is the spice of life. Meeting new people, interacting with people of different walks can make better as a person, since different communities having norms and practices. Talk of poor, modest, or rich in knowledge, wisdom, money, or experiences.
They are usually very demanding and may turn into a workaholic. This in turn gives limited family or leisure time. Hence, it is always good to know your priorities as a person. This will or may enable to spare or get some quality time to spend.with your loved ones or for yourself.
