Big Online Multiplayer Games or MMORPG as it is more commonly known, role-playing games that involve a large number of online players.
The descriptive feature of MMORPG is that they all offer a continuous visual world in which you can play. These worlds usually support thousands of players at once, all playing one character in a game.
What does this mean?
In MMORPG you control the character (commonly known as an avatar) and direct his actions within the game. Many games offer a level-based level system - the player directs his character through certain tasks, such as killing monsters, and as a result their ability to repeat the same tasks increases. This is usually represented by the overall skill level associated with the character, with the minimum levels representing individual ability.
As the worlds continue your skills are preserved, which means that the time and effort invested in the game seems permanent to your character.
For example, if you play a fighting game that focuses on your total fighting ability it may be represented by Martial Level - this level will increase each time you gain a predetermined number of experience points, giving you powerful skills and abilities. When you get out of the game everything is remembered so the next time you play you can start where you left off.
Online
As the MMORPG connects thousands of players with the same global game servers that provide a harmonious feel for everyone. This means that if you kill a monster it will not only disappear from your screen, but also from all the other players.
Real-time chat is usually available, typed messages can be displayed to other players within and within your area. Additionally it is common for MMORPGs to allow trade between players and fights, duels and team work.
Playing As a Team
The great feature of playing MMORPG is that almost every game offers a player program to work together. This can be a coalition to fight tough enemies or combine resources to improve team goals. Such groups are known as families or organizations.
Games Within Games
MMORPGS provides players with a wide range of options to play and game players define the world in which they play. This includes many of the in-game features created by the players themselves using the collected resources.
This process is called Crafting, and it is one of the most popular martial arts. Instead of that physical domination, the artists are often very rich in in-game assets - selling their goods for game money or other items.
Online or Offline?
Offline games are good for relaxation and entertainment, but they cannot offer the combination of depth and social networking provided by MMORPG. Character progression is an important ingredient that allows you to focus on the features of the game you enjoy without worrying about the ones you don't like.
Every character starts with the same levels and skills, but soon you will make your character your own which means a few others will be exactly like you.
If you like playing computer games then try MMORPG. Once you start playing you will never look back.
