Refuse
There are many things that you don’t need, yet you take it when someone offers you. Say No to things that are not needed by you, do not buy products that can harm the environment and people; in short, Refuse things that are not needed.
Sustainability defines refuse as refusing to accept or support products or companies that harm the environment. One way to do this is to refuse items that are over-packaged or packaged in plastic. While it is difficult to refuse all plastic items, being more conscious can help change your habits.
Reduce
Reduce means useless. You can save electricity by switching off light because electricity is produced by burning coal, which adds to environmental pollution. By using fewer resources, you are actually saving the environment. Similarly, you can save water, save food, and save the environment by reusing things in your daily life and buying new items every time.
Also helps to decrease the waste material that we throw away. They conserve natural resources, landfill space, and energy. And also, the 3rs save land and money communities must use to dispose of waste in landfills.
Reuse
Use products that you can reuse. For example, single-use plastic bags are not reusable; instead of using poly bags, you can carry your own bag to carry items and reuse your bag every time you go to the market. Reuse is better than recycling because to reuse; there is no burden on the environment. To recycle, a factory needs to recycle things that again become a burden on our environment. Always try to re-use as much as you can.
Historically, financial motivation was one of the main drivers of reuse. In the developing world, this driver can lead to very high levels of reuse, however rising wages and consequent consumer demand for the convenience of disposable products have made the reuse of low-value items such as packaging uneconomic in richer countries, leading to the demise of many reuse programs. Current environmental awareness is gradually changing attitudes, and regulations, such as the new packaging regulations, are gradually beginning to reverse the situation.
Repurpose
Repurpose means giving a new purpose to things that are no longer being used for the original purpose. For example, if you are no longer going to use cups or mugs for drinking water and tea respectively, you can use the same as a pot to plant small plants in them or use them to decorate.
Repurposing is as old as human civilization, with many contemporary scholars investigating how different societies re-appropriate the artifacts of older cultures in new and creative ways. More recently, repurposing has been celebrated by 21st-century hobbyists and arts-and-crafts organizations such as Instructables and other Maker culture communities as a means of creatively responding to the ecological and economic crises of the 21st century. Recent scholarship has attempted to relate these activities to American left- and right-libertarianism.
Recycle
Recycle comes to the last step you no longer can reuse or repurpose, then it’s time to recycle. Recycle simply means breaking down the elements of an object and making a new item out of recycled materials.
You can segregate items like plastics, Iron, paper then sell these items to companies that recycle these items.
Also, recycling saves a lot of energy because many things we recycle can easily be converted into virgin materials. In addition, it saves a lot of resources too. Moreover, recycling reduces the burden on the environment. As we save energy, the number of greenhouse gases and oxides are produced in less quantity.
