If you have posted every job on every internet job board and monster, career builder and hot jobs. You've followed and networked calls until you're out of the blue. Try some unique ways to find a job.
Send half your resume
Find a company you want to work for. Write a great cover letter on why you're a good fit, pointing to the attached resume. Do not seal the envelope and do not attach the resume. They will think that the resume is in the mail. They will call and join the conversation. Shamelessly sell yourself.
Write a potential letter
Harness the power of Direct Mail. Locate 5-10 companies. Write a letter to your contact network and ask them if they know anyone who works at any of the companies on your list. When a contact says they know someone on your list, send them your resume and ask them to forward it to your contact or ask permission to send it to themselves.
E-mail chain letter
List 25 to 30 companies you'd like to work for, and send an "email" to everyone you know to see if they know anyone who works at these companies. If they do, ask them to contact you 'so', you can ask for a referral. Lastly, ask them to forward your email to up to 15 more people. However, don't do this if you are currently employed!
Distribute a booklet
Write and give a booklet with information related to your industry. Everyone loves free information and it showcases your expertise. Give the booklet electronically and advertise it in newsgroups where the hiring manager will see it.
Call human resources
Sounds crazy, doesn't it? Call the human resources department. Ask them what external agency, or third-party recruitment firm, they use. They will ask you why you want to know. Tell them that their company is not currently looking for someone with your skill set, the agency may be working with other firms, so you are looking for a recommendation. They may very well ask you for an interview. If not, at least you get a lead. They would prefer to save on agency fees. Also, being recommended gets you special attention. Send them a "Thank you" note.
Start Networking
Start networking. Ask everyone you know if they know of any job openings. If you have not lost your job yet, explain to them, you may be laid off and will be looking for a new job. Maybe they can give you a contact name within their company. Someone to send your resume to letting them know if they have any openings in the future you would like to be considered. Start the process now. It is not what you know, it is who you know. Net working is a good way of your life. Get your financial house in order. This is always easier said than done. If you are like most people, you may already be living paycheck to paycheck and there is nothing extra.
