What are cold storage facilities, Uses and Industry Applications in Vietnam

The cost of operating cold storage facilities is high, but, from a distance, it proves to be cost effective because waste is eliminated. In addition, high-tech climate control systems helps you to maintain the optimal temperature and humidity.

The Various Types of Cold Storage Facilities

Although cold storage facilities are of many types, they are either classified as refrigerated cold storage or frozen cold storage. Fruits and veggies are stored in the refrigerated cold storage category because they can spoil, but, for some reason, are sensitive to extreme low temperatures. Items like meat and fish are stored in the frozen cold storage because they cannot be kept at room temperature.

As per GMI Research, the Vietnam Cold Storage Market  size is projected to reach USD 716 million in 2032

All of these come with different variations. Depending on their needs, businesses may require:

• Private Cold Storage. A cold storage facility owned by the company making or selling the product. Here, the finished products are stored to be aged (like wine) or until they are ready to be shipped to the end-user.

• Public Cold Storage. The third party owned cold storages hoard perishable items on behalf of other companies until the items are ready to be delivered to the final customer.

• Refrigerated Containers. These are used for transporting perishable food items from one place to another or used as a temporary cold storage facility during certain events.

• Blast Freezers. These are used for rapidly cooling products prior to being placed in storage. These are used to preserve the flavor, texture and consistency of the product for a longer shelf life and free from bacteria.

• Ultra-Low Storage. Ultra-low storage facilities can go as low as -122°F. These are used for storing biological specimens or sensitive chemical compounds.

Items Requiring Cold Storage

Food is not the only thing that can go bad without being preserved at cold temperatures. Other products that need to be preserved at cold temperatures include:

• Artwork. Stable temperatures of 70-75°F is the best for preserving the integrity of the painting, as it can crack, fade, peel or develop mold if exposed to extreme temperatures.

• Plants. 33-40°F is the best temperature for keeping flowers fresh, as it is above freezing, but still at low temperatures.

• Film. Film and other chemicals can easily degrade at room temperature, and refrigeration, in this case, is actually a better option, as it is easily storable and prevents degradation.

• Cosmetics. Most makeup can withstand temperatures over 100°F but it is always best kept below room temperature. Some women even keep makeup in the fridge!

• Seeds. Seeds kept in warm and wet conditions can sprout and in the worst case scenario rotting is probable. However, 32-40°F is ideal for long-term storage as it can keep seeds for years.

• Pharmaceuticals. All drugs are highly sensitive to temperature and kept warm for long lose effectiveness. Most drugs live best at 68-77°F, but some require even colder temperatures to remain stable.

You can keep the temperature at the lowest possible cost while saving energy and maintaining a consistent temperature due to insulated doors. Vortex installs and repairs insulated doors for a wide range of institutions, helping keep goods away from harmful temperatures.
