A casual gamer is someone who plays one or two low intensity games on an infrequent basis. Someone who plays word or puzzle games on their smart phone while watching Television at home or while using public transport is an example of a casual gamer. Because of its widespread appeal and the convenience of access that smart phones offer, casual gaming accounts for the majority of the gaming market. It's common for a casual player to not consider themselves a gamer.
Someone who plays video games on a daily basis is called a hardcore gamer. They typically own consoles or gaming Personal computer that are specifically designed for playing video games. A dedicated gamer plays a lot of games, usually concentrating on one genre or set of games that they really love. A professional gamer is a someone who uses gaming as a means of income or self sufficiency. Some compete professionally in video game tournaments as e sports athletes. They could participate in events that are televised and form a team or clan. They might profit from business sponsorships and the prize money from competitions. Usually, they concentrate on just one game. Streamers are yet another category of professional gamers. By sharing videos of themselves playing games, streamers can earn money. Often recorded in real time, these videos are uploaded to YouTube or Twitch. They get funding from sponsorships, ad sales, and donations from viewers. Gaming as usually played on three kinds of platforms: a video game console, PC or mobile device. All can be played by people individually or with multiple players locally or over the Internet.
A video game console is a dedicated device to play video games. The console is commonly connected to a Television and the player uses a controller to interact with the game. The major consoles are Microsoft's box, Sony's PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. Games and accessories do not work between console manufacturers. If a game is only released for one console, it is called an exclusive; if the game is available for more than one, it is called a multiple platforms.
