WHAT ARE BENEFITS OF EATING HONEY

Honey is actually a gift from nature; It combines great taste with nutrition. It is one of the few natural ingredients that can be consumed without any preparation, thanks to the bees working their magic. Some health and dietary benefits of eating honey are as follows:

1. It is a natural sugar substitute, without any of the problems created by refined sugars and artificial sweeteners. In fact, in most cases, honey can actually lower high blood sugar levels due to its unique combination of fructose and glucose. It acts as a great scalp cleanser. Dandruff and dry, flaky skin on the scalp can be treated by applying raw honey to the scalp.

2. It contains high levels of flavonoids and antioxidants, which reduce the risk of cancer and keep your cell structure and immune system healthy. Archaeologists have discovered a honeycomb buried in an Egyptian tomb several millennia ago, and—guess—the honey was still edible! Pure, unadulterated honey kept in a sealed jar is the only substance in the world that does not spoil.

3. It is an antibacterial, antifungal substance, which acts on the gastrointestinal system, killing bacteria (which is why it has such a long shelf-life, but we will come to this later!) It is related to the stomach. Keeps away diseases like ulcers and also helps in curing acid reflux.

4. It is one of the most famous remedies for insomnia. Studies have proved that a spoonful of honey before bedtime helps a person to have a less healthy and more sound sleep. So what's the secret to this ingredient's eternal shelf-life? There are many factors. Honey is natural sugar, and is therefore hygroscopic – meaning, while it does not contain moisture of its own, it can easily suck up moisture from the outside. Because of the low humidity, very few bacteria can actually survive in the honey; Creatures just die. So there's nothing for the honey to go bad.

5. Honey is a natural remedy for cold, cough, and other nasal and bronchial conditions, which helps in keeping away all the ailments related to the throat and nose.

6. If you have a pollen allergy (yes, the same ingredient bees use to make honey), a spoonful of this syrupy sweetener can help sedate against allergies. What it lacks in protein, good fats, and vitamins and minerals (trace amounts only), it makes up for in bioactive plant compounds such as carotenoids and polyphenols, which promote overall health by reducing the risk of heart disease and other diseases.

8. Being rich in natural sugars, it is a powerful source of energy. In fact, in the era of the ancient Olympics, athletes ate honey and figs to boost their performance and maintain glycogen levels. It also balances cholesterol levels in the body, moderately lowers bad cholesterol, and increases good cholesterol.

9. If you get a cut or burn, just put a dollop of pure honey on it, and you are good to go. Thanks to its antibacterial nature, it helps in the faster healing of wounds. For the same reason, it is also good for preventing and treating acne and breakouts. This is the ultimate cleanser moisturizer. Applying a thin layer of honey to your skin leaves it smooth, supple, and nourished, cleansing it without stripping it of natural oils.

10. Honey is good medicine, which combats damage caused by excessive sun exposure like rashes and sunspots. It promotes overall complexion and skin health. Since it is high in antioxidants, it is great to slow down the aging process and treat mature skin. Dry and dehydrated skin conditions can be treated with a spoonful of honey – from chapped lips to cracked heels, all of which are known to benefit.
