In 1922, the Ajello Candle Company made a memorial candle for their deceased friend Enrico Caruso. This candle was 18 feet long and weighed more than a ton. It is estimated that this candle can burn up to 24 hours a day for 1,800 years before it expires. This monumental candle is still the largest ever made in the world. Each year, two lights are lit to commemorate Enrico Caruso's birth and death.

 

The Ajello Candle Company continued to grow and sales exceeded expectations in Italy and the United States. In 1953 the company was asked to build 2,200 candles for the anointing of Queen Elizabeth. The company is honored to meet the request, and all candles are ready in six months. Ajello Candle Company was asked to buy it, but it refused. The family wanted their candle business to remain that way, not a big company.

 

Despite Ajello Candle Company's creative efforts, they were unable to meet the demand for their candles in 1965 during a power outage in New York City.
