• The Cholistan Desert
Many of us may have heard of the desert of Pakistan and its environs but for lack of knowledge, we know nothing about this far-flung region of Pakistan. The Cholistan desert is almost 260 square miles and is the only desert in Pakistan and India. It is known locally as "Rohi" and covers the Bahawalpur area of Punjab. The lifestyle of people there is a form of wandering, nomadic or semi-nomadic. The culture of the Cholistan desert is so diverse and beautiful that it is quite attractive. It hosts an annual Jeep rally each year, the biggest motorsport event in Pakistan.
• The Thar Desert
It is also known as the Great Indian Desert, which is a vast arid region that forms the natural border between India and Pakistan. It is the 18th largest desert in the world. 15% of the area is located in Pakistan about 30,000 km. It is famous for its magnificent castle, camel safari, golden dunes, and colorful culture. The climate of the Thar Desert is similar to that of any other desert. Farther south in the desert lies the salt marshes known as the Rann of Kutch. The Indus River flows west of the desert. The summer days are really hot and the nights are cool but the winter days are warm and the nights are cold. In the summer there is little rain. There are about 23 species of lizards and 25 species of snakes present here.
• The Indus Valley Desert
The Indus Valley Desert is located in northern Pakistan. The desert covers an area of 19,500 square miles and is surrounded by northwestern scrub forests. It is very cold in winter and very hot in summer. It is located between two major rivers in the region, the Chenab and the Indus. The Indus Valley Desert is drier and less tolerable than the Northwest fenced backyard and is less hospitable due to temperatures ranging from freezing in winter to extreme temperatures (over 45 °) in the summer with only 600-800mm of rainfall per year.
• The Thal Desert
The Thal Desert is located in the Mianwali region of Pakistan between the Indus and Jhelum rivers. It is a well-established desert; water is also available to people living in Thal. A major project is underway to build irrigation canals. Geographically, it resembles the deserts of Cholistan and Thar. Three-quarters of the total area contains large dunes although most of its areas are irrigated by the Indus canal. There is a low literacy rate among people.
• Kharan Desert
The Kharan desert in the area is known as the “Sandy Desert” and is located in Balochistan. It covers an area of about 48,051square kilometers. The land is barren, rugged, and unsuitable for farming due to low irrigation. The climate is dry and dusty storms are common throughout the year. The desert includes inland water sources and dry lakes. Their main occupations of people there are farming and agriculture. Pakistan's second nuclear test was conducted in a remote area of Kharan.
