Chennai Super Kings batter Ambati Rayudu has announced that he will be retiring after IPL 2022. The right-handed batter has been one of the mainstays in their batting line-up however, moments after announcing his retirement, the star batter deleted his tweet and it is not visible on his account.
Chennai Super Kings senior batter Ambati Rayudu has announced that he will be retiring from the IPL after the 2022 season. Ambati Rayudu took to his social media accounts to make the announcement. The 36-year-old batter from Hyderabad has been one of the mainstays in the Chennai Super Kings batting line-up for quite some time. He has also helped the side win crucial games with his performances. The right-handed batter has also won the IPL title with the Chennai-based franchise multiple times.
However, in an interesting turn of events, Ambati Rayudu after making the announcement deleted the tweet from his social media account.
Ambati Rayudu in his IPL career has played 187 games and scored 4,187 runs over the years with an average of 29.28 and a strike rate of 127.26 in the cash-rich league. This year in IPL 2022, Ambati Rayudu has so far scored 271 runs and at a strike rate of 124. The batter in the previous seasons of the IPL has also played for the Mumbai Indians and performed really well for them during his tenure with the five-time IPL champions.
Mumbai: Chennai Super Kings batter AmbatiRayudu on Saturday took to Twitter to announce that the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season will be his last in the cash-rich league but later deleted his tweet.
Taking to Twitter, Rayudu wrote: “I am happy to announce that this will be my last ipl. I have had a wonderful time playing it and being a part of 2 great teams for 13 years. Would love to sincerely thank Mumbai Indians and Csk for the wonderful journey.”
Over the years, Rayudu has become a key part of the CSK batting lineup and displayed both attacking and conservative game to bail his side out of trouble.
In 2018, Rayudu retired from first-class cricket to focus on the shorter format. And the plan seemed to be working as he made it to the India ODI team that was searching for a No. 4. Even that wasn’t easy, though — he made the cut after clearing the yo-yo fitness test on the second attempt.
Rayudu’s consistency had even prompted India captain Virat Kohli to say India had found their No. 4 for the World Cup. However, the team ended up going with Vijay Shankar, the Tamil Nadu all - rounder who was described by chief selector M S K Prasad as a “three-dimensional” cricketer. Soon enough, Rayudu posted a tweet: “Just ordered a new set of 3D glasses to watch the world cup”.
After being passed over despite two Indian players sustaining injuries at the World Cup, Rayudu announced his retirement from cricket. Rayudu was listed in the reserves for the Indian cricket team prior to the World Cup.
Ambati Rayudu led India in the 2004 U-19 World Cup, a team that included Dinesh Karthik, Suresh Raina, Robin Uthappa, Irfan Pathan, R P Singh and Shikhar Dhawan in its ranks.
