The new office marks Amazon’s fourth office in Tamil Nadu and will take the company’s total office area in Tamil Nadu to over 21 lakh square feet. The company has four fulfilment centres and three sort centres. In 2021, Amazon set up its first devices manufacturing unit in India in Chennai and now, the company said hundreds of thousands of Fire TV Stick devices are manufactured in the facility.
"We are committed to create 20 lakh jobs, direct and indirect across the country by the year 2025," Vinod Mathews, Director, Global Real Estate & Facilities, Amazon said. "The new office marks Amazon's fourth office in Tamil Nadu reiterating our commitment to the state and the region. This new office is to further strengthen our presence and participation by supporting the country's growth, creating employment opportunities and investing with a long term horizon."
He said that Amazon first began operations in Tamil Nadu with close to 50 people based in Chennai in the year of 2005. Today, with over 14,000 employees in the state, Tamil Nadu has emerged as a significant location for the company's people and business strategy.
The office was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin. “We believe that the launch of Amazon’s new office in Chennai will have a multiplier effect on the state economy. The expansion and investment will bind both the economic and social well-being of the state. We look forward to further investments by Amazon in Tamil Nadu focused on job creation and infrastructure expansion,” Stalin said in a statement.
Mano Thangaraj, Minister of IT, Government of Tamil Nadu, Neeraj Mittal, Secretary, Department of IT, Government of Tamil Nadu and other senior officials from the state government were also present at the event.
E-commerce giant Amazon on Tuesday strengthened its presence in Tamil Nadu with the setting up of a new facility, its second largest in the country and fourth in the state that can house around 6,000 employees.
Chief Minister M K Stalin formally inaugurated the facility spread across 8.3 lakh sq ft in the city.
Amazon began operations in Tamil Nadu with 50 people in 2005 and currently has over 14,000 employees in the state. ''I am very happy to inaugurate Amazon's largest office facility in Tamil Nadu and the second largest in India'', Stalin said.
''TN's journey towards being a one trillion dollar economy! look forward to Amazon's continued efforts towards job creation and infrastructure expansion in Tamil Nadu''.
In an official release, Stalin said the infrastructure development in Tamil Nadu, investment favourable policies and the launch of Amazon's largest office would have positive impact on the states' economy. Minister for Information Technology, Mano Thangaraj, IT Department principal secretary Neeraj Mittal and senior officials from Amazon took part.

Several technology, engineering, devices and operations teams (of Amazon) operate from the company's offices across Chennai. Amazon also has two offices in Old Mahabalipuram Road (popularly known as the IT Corridor) and another in Saravanampatti, Coimbatore.
The company has four fulfilment centres, three sort centres. The company in 2021 had set up its first device manufacturing unit in Chennai and today 'hundreds of thousands' of Fire TV Stick devices are manufactured in the unity.
The new office building features state-of-the-art infrastructure design and facilities that would operate with significantly lower cost than any conventional building by incorporating internationally recognised building standards.
These standards allow an estimated 23 per cent reduction in annual energy consumption and a 76 per cent reduction in drinking water consumption.
The new office would function in full capacity as and when employees return to work, once the COVID-19 pandemic induced remote working scenario stabilises, the company said.
The office features workstations, dual cabins, private cabins, meeting rooms, board rooms, among others. It has a 24-hour multi-cuisine food court accessible to all employees.
Amazon has implemented a series of preventive health measures for employees, associates and partners at its offices and adheres to the government guidelines to provide a safe work environment, the company said.
