What about you , Should you drink water even before brushing your teeth?

Many of us like to start our day with a hot cuppa, which is enjoyed after brushing our teeth. But Dr Noopor Rohatgi, certified yoga instructor and homeopathic doctor, recently took to Instagram to share that Ayurveda suggests one to begin their mornings with a glass of water on an empty stomach.

“Drink water right after you wake up in the morning, even before brushing your teeth!”

The importance of drinking an adequate amount of water throughout the day cannot be stressed enough. Water, not only helps one stay hydrated but also regulates body temperature and maintains bodily functions like flushing out waste from the kidneys, create saliva, and also make nutrients available to various body parts.

The following reasons are why one should drink water first thing in the morning:

*Bacteria builds up in the mouth while one is asleep; when you drink water in the morning, you ingest those bacteria, too, which helps in improving immunity.

*It improves digestion, and prevents indigestion.

*Helps lower high blood pressure

Drinking water on an empty stomach also keeps oral health in check by reducing bad breath, as the water helps rehydrate and prevent dry mouth that is caused due to lack of saliva in the mouth.

This can help fight sicknesses and strengthen the immune system.

'Drink two glasses of water as soon as you wake up. Sit and drink in sips'.

'In general, we don’t recommend drinking a large amount of water before bedtime, but a small amount is good'.

When’s the best time to stop drinking water?

It’s often recommended that you should stop drinking water two hours before going to bed. This way, you’re not flooding your body with extra fluids that may cause an unwanted trip to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

In moderate amounts, drinking water in the evening can still be beneficial. Water is an essential nutrient that keeps your body hydrated, joints lubricated, breaks down waste and much more.

Cleanses your body.

Staying hydrated throughout the day and evening can help with breaking down waste in your body and releasing toxins through sweat.

If you do need to have some water before you hit the hay — whether it’s because your mouth is feeling parched or you need to take nightly medications — a little, but is still OK.

'As a general rule, drink less than a glass of water in those last two hours before bedtime if you have to. And drink small sips'.

This goes for other late night sips as well. Try to avoid fluids like alcohol, juice and tea within those last two hours before your head hits the pillow.

While getting up to go to the bathroom occasionally won’t hurt your health, it’s important to note that constant sleep interruptions can lead to a variety of issues. After all, sleep ties in with everything from our immune system to mental health. Intense sleep deprivation has been shown to have a link to:

*Memory loss.

*Infections.

*High blood pressure.

*High cholesterol levels.

*Weight gain.

*Cancer.

Helps regulate your body temperature.

If you’re in an extra warm environment or feeling especially hot, cooling your body down with a bit of water can be beneficial before bed. Try sucking on ice cubes or taking tiny sips of water before bed.

Be healthy, take care of yourselves.
