INTRODUCTION
British scientist Tim Berners-Lee created the World Wide Web in 1989. He was thereafter employed by CERN. He first created it to meet the demand for automatic information sharing between scientists throughout the globe, allowing them to quickly and easily communicate the data and findings of their experiments and studies with one another.
WORLD WIDE WEB (WWW)
A collection of websites or web pages kept on web servers and linked to local computers over the internet is referred to as the World Wide Web, or simply as a Web. These websites offer text, digital photos, audios, videos, and other content. Using their PCs, laptops, mobile phones, and other devices connected to the internet, users can access the content of these websites from anywhere in the globe. Text and media can be retrieved from and displayed on your device using the WWW and the internet.
WEB PAGES
Web pages with HTML formatting that are connected by "hypertext" or hyperlinks and accessible over HTTP are the fundamental units of the Internet. These linkages, which connect related pieces of information electronically, allow users to find the information they need fast. The benefit of hypertext is the ability to click on a word or phrase in text to visit other pages that include more information on that word or phrase.
Users can retrieve and exchange information through the internet using the communication infrastructure provided by the web. On the World Wide Web, as opposed to books, where we turn the pages sequentially, we visit a web page and then go from that web page to other web pages by following a web of hypertext links. To access the Web, you must use a browser that is installed on your computer.
FUNCTION
In order to view a web page on the World Wide Web, one must either enter the page's URL into a web browser or click on a link to the page or resource. To fetch and display the requested page, the web browser subsequently starts a series of background communication messages. In the 1990s, using a browser to see web pages and navigate between them by clicking on hyperlinks became known as "browsing," "web surfing," or "navigating the Web." Early research on this new tendency examined online browser usage trends. One study, for instance, identified five user patterns: targeted navigation, bounded navigation, evolved navigation, and exploratory navigation.
SEARCH ENGINE
A web search engine or Internet search engine is a software system that is designed to carry out web search (Internet search), which means to search the World Wide Web in a systematical way, for particular information specified in a web search query. The search results are generally presented in a line of results, often referred to as search engine results pages (SERPs). The information may be a mix of web pages, images, videos, infographics, articles, research papers, and other types of files. Some search engines also mine data available in databases or open directories. Unlike web directories, which are maintained only by human editors, search engines also maintain real-time information by running an algorithm on a web crawler. Internet content that is not capable of being searched by a web search engine is generally described as the deep web.
SERVER
A Web server is server software, or hardware dedicated to running said software, that can satisfy World Wide Web client requests. A web server can, in general, contain one or more websites. A web server processes incoming network requests over HTTP and several other related protocols.
The primary function of a web server is to store, process and deliver web pages to clients.[51] The communication between client and server takes place using the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). Pages delivered are most frequently HTML documents, which may include images, style sheets and scripts in addition to the text content.
