Beauty is what most people want, if not all. In fact, billions of dollars are spent every year just to achieve the elusive dream of physical perfection. Surgical procedures are designed to repair and replace the nose, chin, mouth and even the entire face and body of a person who would be willing to spend for it. Of course, not everyone can afford these overly expensive medical procedures.
Manufacturers of beauty products offer a cheaper alternative through a variety of brands and concoctions that feed on a large market. Beauty soaps, astringents, lotions and many other beauty products are packaged and sold to an eager army of customers. All these products "promise" to make a woman's skin more supple, smooth and silky.
These products are not limited to toiletries and tabletop skin cleansing preparations. This medicine also extends to a wide range of commodities. Some of these pharmaceutical products include acne pills, growth pills and slimming pills.
While it is true that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" - society has already set certain standards for what beauty is. People differ in terms of skin, hair color, eye shape or the fullness of one's lips. For this reason, weight loss pills are one of the most purchased beauty products in the market.
Weight loss pills contain various chemicals and ingredients that either reduce a person's appetite or inhibit the absorption of fat in the body. For example, ephemera is still being used as an ingredient in some weight loss pills. Ephemera is a botanical product that is widely used to increase alertness and aid in weight loss. Reported adverse effects led the FDA to ban products containing ephemera in the United States in 2004, although it can still be sold legally as tea. Despite the ban, many ephemera products are still being sold on the Internet. The main slimming effect of ephemera is a decrease in appetite. Other weight loss pills use a variety of chemical ingredients. Some diet pills block the absorption of dietary fat, which is relatively safe, but can cause constipation, bloating, and other abdominal diseases. Other weight loss pills reduce body fat and build muscle. These products are relatively safe.
Green tea extract is also used for slimming purposes. The extract increases calorie and fat metabolism and reduces appetite, although there is limited evidence to support the claim. However, long-term use of green tea extract can cause vomiting, bloating, dyspepsia, and diarrhea.
With all these weight loss pills readily available in the market, one can easily think of a "dieter's dream" where every single fat burning product is within reach. Dietary supplements and weight loss aids are not subject to the same stringent standards applied in the regulation of prescription drugs or over the counter drugs. As such, they may be marketed with limited evidence of effectiveness and safety. Sellers may make health claims about products based on their reviews and interpretations of studies without FDA authorization, although the FDA may remove the product from the market if it proves dangerous.
A person's inquiry and curiosity will be their best protection. It is advised to read the label and consult a doctor or pharmacist about any dietary supplements they are taking or are considering taking
