Living in today’s metropolitan world of modern mobile phones computers and many high-tech gadgets is not only busy but also very impersonal. We make money and get so caught up in making money that we don’t even realize that we are depriving ourselves of the satisfaction and happiness of life and then investing our time and effort in making more money. Does it end? No? Usually not because we are never satisfied. Rather, they think that if we had some more money, how beautiful life would be. But then, after getting enough raises, we realize it wasn’t enough.
What should you do?
I have read countless books on life, which teach how to live life and introduce the secret to a contented and prosperous life. In some, the author says that money is not important. But it is. Can life be peaceful without it?
So, I went to a friend and asked for advice that would help me find the right path in life. Who often guides me.
He said yes and took me to the window.
I replied, “I can see people walking, some sitting reading a newspaper and on the left corner a man is begging.”
The friend nodded and turned my face to a large mirror and said, “Now look and tell me what you see?”
“I can see myself,” I replied.
The friend smiled. “Now you can see no one but yourself. Both the mirror and the window are made of the same raw material: glass, but because they have put a thin layer of silver on one of them, when you look through it, You only see your own reflection.”
The friend put his arm on my shoulders and addressed me in a sympathetic tone. “Compare yourself to these two pieces of glass. Without the silver lining, you see other people, sympathize with them. When you are covered with silver, you can only see yourself.” And feel your suffering.
I looked at him carefully. “I could not understand.”
The friend continued. “You will only become a better person when you have the courage to remove the silver lining from your eyes to see and love others.” He patted me on the back and sent me on my way.
I’ve thought about it a lot and come to the conclusion, that he had a point. We need money and don’t aim to lead a moneyless existence; It is pointless and will only cause us and our families many problems in this life and in the future.
Instead, I suggest that we follow his advice. When we try to see life through a silver lining, we only see ourselves. But remove that cover, and you will be able to see and feel everything else.
Life shows us both types of mirrors, and it is allowed and should be, but we must also remember that the mirror does not only reflect us but also awakens our conscience. The window is the door to compassion, kindness, health and true wealth. In other words, it is more appropriate to say, seek wealth by all means, but do not let it take away from life, people, children and the poor and needy.
