Sri Guru Nanak Dev was the founder of Sikhism. He was born on April 15, 1469, in Sheikhupura District of Punjab, which now forms a part of the Pakistan state. Nine Gurus followed Sri Guru Nanak Dev, one after the other. The successor Guru was always commissioned by the Guru in office, Sufficient time for his death, when the divine call was received by him. The Gurus proclaimed that the divine light, which illumined the person of Nanak Dev as the Guru, was passed on to the succeeding nine Gurus. There was therefore one Guru in ten human forms.
Guru Nanak Dev during his extensive tours within India and other countries preached the following three basic truths. This phenomenal material world is full of illusions. Man has been sent here by the creator to seek the lasting reality in this confusion. The rough sea of the material world appears impassable; there is an art of living to cross this area. There is no magic wand, which shall solve our problems and make us happy. In vain, people run after shortcuts of the clever ones, who misguide them. Whom god blesses, they live with him and are not swayed by the distracting and myriad alluring forces. God, who abides in all, is the true Teacher (Sat Guru-his light in us), who guides us to live rationally. They alone who live a life of purity amidst impurities are honored in the court of god. True religions give us the message of god.
From the study of modern depth psychology we will observe that there are the following three tendencies in us, which are directed against life, which form the nucleus of severe mental sickness, and which can be said to be the essence of true evil in our life, which makes us unhappy.
Necrophilia or love of death or love of material things which are lifeless and make us lifeless, in their mad pursuits which involve us in wrangling and strafes, and we lose ourselves. The Necrophagous actually love death, take pleasure in seeing people suffering and being tortured and dying. They indulge in genocide of the people and take pleasure in killing of the people to see pyramids of human skulls in the mob uprising in their fanaticism. They love to see chaos everywhere. Hitler, at the end of the World War II, showed his deepest satisfaction in witnessing total and absolute destruction; may be of the German people or those around him and even himself. During World War I, a soldier saw Hitler as a corporal standing in a trance like mood, gazing at a decayed corpse and unwilling to move away. Man is a wolf and very aggressive to hurt, dominate and enslave others. When external aggression is not possible, then the aggression is turned inward. He does not excuse himself also. In frustration, he turns an ascetic and mortifies himself, while his mind still remains uncultivated and uncultured.
Narcissism or self-love or selfishness or self conceit or egocentricity or too much of concentration on our body and our external appearances.
